The trouble is, most people seem to be so dumb, that even now, they still haven't quite fathomed how fucked we are
Fair enough, most people never studied economics, but in simple terms - we've just closed down our financial services industry. An industry that provides 18% of our GDP.
Even if we actually did save £350M a week, that doesn't even come close to covering the difference.
The thing that winds me up is that there will be people wringing their hands thinking that they've done the world a favour by sticking it to the 'wanker bankers', when all they've done is forced them to move back into other European countries who will enjoy the huge amounts of tax that they pay (regardless of whether you think it's a 'fair' amount).

Maybe we could you know, start making stuff again and exporting it round the world?
In hindsight maybe it wasn't the best thing in the world to concentrate our countries wealth creation in the city and trust it to a bunch of professional gamblers pissing in their own pool.

He's just shown you an absolute masterclass on political manoeuvring. Beneath the bumbling surface he's a really shrewd operator and even after he was London's mayor for so long I think people are only just noticing that.

He expected to lose, narrowly and then take over from Cameron in a years time. He now faces a situation were he has to deliver all the bollocks he promised during the campaign. Should be amusing when Cornwall, the North East and Wales realise that the money he guaranteed they would still get doesn't appear. Yay for democracy!

You're right he's a bit rubbish at this.
( , Sat 25 Jun 2016, 9:46, Share, Reply)
The problem he now has is thus
If he had narrowly lost he wouldn't have to deliver all the bollocks they made up in the pub. He now does and that will not go down well with voters in 4 years time when a general election comes around and they have had time to realise it was all bollocks. A masterstroke indeed.

Re. taking some Southern states, they do have an appetite for secession in some cases, don't they? There was an artilce in the Guardian the other day about how Texan secessionists are taking comfort from the success of the leave campaign in the UK.

I've not read a lot about the American Civil War
but from what I have read the UK government tried to hedge their bets a little bit and whilst they believed the Union would win, they didn't want to burn bridges with Southern States.
Don't really know any Texans. The only Americans I've ever really got to know were all Californians or from the East Coast. Only Southerner I've ever really known was a lady from Louisiana who worked in London, who had just about the sexiest accent I've ever heard.
