Star Wars.
It's not actually that good.

Carrie Fisher is average-looking.

Darth Vader isn't that cool.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 8:53, 47 replies)
bones mccoy is fit as fuck though

I will hunt you down
and kill you!
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 9:05, closed)
No you won't.

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 9:15, closed)
Right. I won't.
Thanks for your input Monty.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 9:44, closed)
There's nowt cuter than the impotence of a trekkie.

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 9:29, closed)

Good job Jar-Jar gave some much-needed depth and finesse to what would otherwise have been a tired, formulaic saga, isn't it?
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 9:09, closed)
You forgot to mention that
Greedo shot first.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 9:10, closed)
I know you are just being a loltroll
But even a die hard Star Wars geek knows this + George Lucas couldn't write decent dialogue if his life depended on it. The plot is paper thin and really stupid and Luke is an annoying cunt BUT to a 7 year old boy it was the most fantastic thing ever.

I held a certain amount of nostalgic love for the original films but I didn't own a replica lightsaber or go to conventions or own every incarnation of the film ever churned out by Lucas film but because of that amazing day in 1977 when I was 7 I loved them.

With the new batch of films Lucas' faults were magnified 1000 fold and when I have re-watched the originals with my daughter they looked almost as bad as the new batch...the cunt

And like a dog returning to in's own vomit it'll be queuing to see what JJ Whatshisface will make of episode 7*

*too much fucking lens flare probobly
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 9:29, closed)
I think the original trilogy holds up pretty well (George's revisions notwithstanding),
probably because other directors are involved for 2 thirds of it.

Also, Ewoks defeating a legion of the Emperor's finest troops, is awesome.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 10:35, closed)
the emperor's finest troops can't shoot for shit
that's why the empire barely lasts twenty years ... it's fucking rubbish
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 10:59, closed)
Don't get me wrong I still like them
but the new films have made me see the flaws that I didn't see before.

Mind you Luke in the 1st one was an insufferable whiny cunt most of the way through... even when I was a kid...I wanted to be Han

The Ewoks!?...now you're being silly ;)
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 11:01, closed)
he was a whiny little cunt in all three
just like his dad was a whiny little cunt in all the prequels

i surmise that lucas was a whiny little cunt as a kid and the entire franchise is therapy for all the bullying he received as a whiny little cunt kid

the whiny little cunt
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 11:05, closed)
Oh yeh
He bitched at Yoda all the time didn't he

then to the Emperor

the cunt
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 11:11, closed)
han represents the school bully who he desperately wanted to befriend
yoda is probably some friendly geography teacher who touched him up

My Tivo box managed to record this after an episode of Todd and the Book of Pure Evil the other week

Years back I played a Star Wars drinking game with a few friends
One of the rules picked out of the hat was that I had to "Drink every time Luke whines". I was wasted before Empire even began.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 11:26, closed)
Anyone not enjoying the scenes on Endor
has approached the film with entirely the wrong mindset. Even Phantom Menace is almost enjoyable if you look at it through the eyes of a child (except it's really fucking boring, as are the other prequels).
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 12:49, closed)
Yes indeed I mean
Any film that's going to be about space taxes and senate meetings that's still targeted at children (mainly) needs to seriously look at itself in the mirror (metaphorically and physically) and admit it's got the basics wrong.
(, Wed 4 Sep 2013, 1:36, closed)
Say what you like about Captain Lensflare.
I think he's doing an immensely enjoyable job with the Star Trek canon.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 11:06, closed)
I read that he's shooting Ep 7 on film instead of digital
One of the reasons being that (apparently) you can't do lensflare with digital cameras.
(, Wed 4 Sep 2013, 12:27, closed)
People get incredulous when I say I don't give a shit about Star Wars.
"but you work in IT!"
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 11:11, closed)
which translates as
"You're a massive asperg spazmo with zero social skills, so stay at home with your fucking toys and leave us alone."

Amirite?
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 14:37, closed)
I'll just pop this in here....

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 11:13, closed)
OK, so explain this to me.
There are 3 reactions to Star Wars. These all happen in varying degrees, so for 'love it' also add 'like it', etc.

1. Love it. I'm in this category, grew up with it, happy to watch all 6 films, don't care about weak storylines / writing, it's a film full of characters I know very well.

2. Hate it. Saw one or two of them, didn't connect, think it's all overhyped crap. Fair enough, I think everything Bob Dylan ever did was shit, but clearly I'm missing something a lot of other people aren't.

3. People from group 2 or who have never seen any of them, complaining about people from group 1.

Why do these people exist?
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 13:15, closed)
You're missing an important 4th reaction here:
Normal people who have seen and enjoyed the films to a greater or lesser extent and then happily got on with the rest of their lives and enjoyed many other films without feeling the need to talk about them all the fucking time.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 13:21, closed)
Option 4: people who may like or dislike Star Wars, but for whom it's not that big of a deal.
Of course, this group don't pop up in discussions about Star Wars.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 13:24, closed)
Group 5
People who loved it when they were young, then grew up and hated it when they were older because it wasn't made for their age range.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 13:37, closed)
Group 6 - people who are indifferent to it, as it's just a film; an entertainment.
Q.V. - band fan loyalty.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 13:42, closed)
Groups 6 and 4 are the same.

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 13:57, closed)
Racist.

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 14:34, closed)
I'm putting them in group 1.
Having added the caveat about these covering ranges of reactions. Let's whittle mine down a little;

1. Love, like or at least do not dislike.

2. Do not like, may or may not have seen them.

3. Would belong in group 2 if not for the fact they need to have a go at group 1, or the films themselves.

I do agree though, probably the majority of people are indifferent.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 15:21, closed)
This doesn't work. Group 1 has to care enough about the films in order to upset Group 3 into having a go at them for it.

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 15:25, closed)
OK, you can do your own version if you like.
Groups 1 and 2 are pretty much irrelevant anyway. The question is, why do people care if you like Star Wars, when they are either not interested or don't like the films themselves.

This is common - music produces similar nosepoking, but Star Wars seems particularly controversial.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 15:40, closed)
Probably because people go on and on about it like it's something.

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 15:50, closed)
The inherent tribal nature of man, probably.
The same reason people wear t-shirts with HACKETT emblazoned on them, I suppose.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 16:19, closed)
Because they're called Ollie and are an absolute scream at parties?

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 16:21, closed)

I assumed it was Father Jack's fan club.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 17:16, closed)
So did i
I'd love to join Father Jacks fan club
(, Wed 4 Sep 2013, 9:49, closed)
Group 7 - spend far too much time arguing over how to categorise people in relation to a film.

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 16:00, closed)
Group 8
Like to create extraneous groups of people.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 17:13, closed)
4. people who try to put their detractors into categories in a vain attempt to justify their preoccupation with a mediocre film series from thirty years ago

(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 19:17, closed)
It was panned in certain quarters when it was new.
The Daily Mirror's reviewer called it it was 'cowboys and Indians in space'.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 17:00, closed)
Which it is. Doesn't necessarily make it good or bad.

(, Wed 4 Sep 2013, 11:32, closed)
I thought that was Space Cowboys.
Or am I thinking of Cowboys and Aliens?
(, Wed 4 Sep 2013, 14:51, closed)

Yeah.
(, Tue 3 Sep 2013, 19:35, closed)
Carrie Fisher
An ex girlfriend worked in PR and had the job of picking up Carrie Fisher from her London hotel to make sure she got to some Star Wars party that was being held at Ally Pally.

She turns up at Carrie's suite but no matter how hard she knocks there's no reply. She gets the hotel staff to let her into the room only to find Princess Leia naked, hunched on the floor making moaning noises. Pissed as a fart.

Cold showers and coffee were employed to get her sufficiently mobile to make a fleeting appearance at the event.
(, Wed 4 Sep 2013, 12:26, closed)
I won't deny that as a person she's awesome in bed.
