This is a question Happy 10th Birthday B3ta

Ten years ago today we launched B3ta (well the version of it you'd recognise). Happy birthday B3ta! As a special one off please add your memories of B3ta here. E.g. How you found the site, or an early thing you saw on the site, maybe the people you've met or how the community is/was part of your life.

Been a member for nearly 9 of those 10 years
and nowhere near as active as I once was, but for a good while B3ta was my 2nd home, mainly when I was suffering with some biblical bouts of insomnia and depression. Many of the people on this board kept me sane and listened to a lot of my inane (and often self-pitying) bollocks which eventually culminated in my appearance at the now legendary Edinb3ta bash of 2003 which I still remember as one of the best weekends of my life, in the company of the likes of Supermoore, Martian, Mystery Bob, Stouffer, Eclectech and many more, as well as sleeping on the floor of the frankly completely awesome Spacefish, who opened his doors to all comers in the name of B3tan brotherhood.

To me, that summed up everything that was great about B3ta: the fact that 40 people who had never met each other in the flesh before could get together in a pub, get horribly drunk and do Brian Blessed impressions.

fuck my hat,
I mention you this afternoon on our current messageboard and you pop up later on! Hello sah, that bash was the last time I met you. You had the luxury of summat soft to sleep on I think, I was on a mat on the kitchen floor :)

Owdo!
Yeah, I do sporadically post from time to time, but I feel so out of the loop these days that it's not that often, and I'm just not capable of pulling 18 hour board binges anymore....

That bash was cracking though, and genuinely remains one of the best and most surreal weekends I've ever spent. An adventure in every sense...

I seem to recall getting a bed the first night, but ended up on the floor with Kitteny Berk (steady on...) later on. My abiding memories of that weekend were listening to godawful acoustic RATM covers in a pub somewhere, Wildheart Baby playing me about 1000 different mashups on his housebrick sized media player and of course, "Free the Edinb3ta One"...
