This is a question Bad Management

Tb2571989 says Bad Management isn't just a great name for a heavy metal band - what kind of rubbish work practices have you had to put up with?

I think this is pretty fucking shit management...
Many of you already know that the lovely Jessie died last month.

Her brother lost his job last week; it was the end of his three-moth trial period and his boss told him it was because he'd had a lot of time off...

Upon expressing his disbelief and annoyance at this, and comparing his two weeks off (for which he'd offered to take annual leave) after his sister being killed to the time a colleague was shortly going to be taking off when his baby was born, the boss changed his tune to "Well, it's not really the time, your work hasn't been up to scratch, sorry"

What a cunt.

There are no words
for quite how horrible some people can be sometimes, I'm sorry. Did the words "unfair dismissal" and "legal action" have any effect? Not that some lengthy court battle is what he needs right now. Jeez some people are bastards.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:06, closed)
Apparently there's not a lot he can do...
...because of the magical THREE-MONTH TRIAL PERIOD, they don't need to give a reason
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:28, closed)
Yup. That will do it.
Man - that's terrible.

Find out where the bastard lives.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:33, closed)
I was about to suggest that

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:39, closed)
Bloody hell!
Legal action at all possible? Jesus that's crap.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:09, closed)
See above, mate...

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:28, closed)
There should be a 'I don't like this' button

Because that son-of-a-bitch manager needs his ass to be kicked, methinks (preferably in a metaphorical and economically damaging way, kids)
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 21:03, closed)
I'm really, really sorry to hear about that.
And reading the above replies gives me an idea- although he doesn't have a legal leg to stand on regarding the three-month trial period, there is of course always the Court of Public Opinion- mention his plight to the press.

The threat of bad publicity might change their mind, but would he really want to carry on working for them?
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:44, closed)
Not to mention the extra stress, which he just doesn't need in his life right now...

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:45, closed)
I hadn't thought of that.
However, bad publicity to shaft the company royally was the first thing in my mind. My mind tends to flip from 'bloody hell that sucks' to 'how to shaft the bastards with a slowly rotating chilli-coated pineapple' without any thought for the consequences.

What an utterly cuntish thing to do.

(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 16:57, closed)
Even though there might not 'legally' be anything he can do about it
He could certainly create some problems for the company in question by going to the press about it. I'm sure all redtops would lap up a story like that.

Do it, pick up the phone. Expose the boss for the cunt he is.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 17:12, closed)
Was it a surprise his work wasn't up to scratch?
Had he received regular feedback and guidance? Was it documented? Because you see, if it wasn't done properly he may have legal comeback. The three month rule mightn't apply if his treatment and training were substandard. He wouldn't get the job back but an out of court settlement could be possible. Was he in a union during his time there?

He may not want the job back, but they (the company) need to know what they're doing is wrong.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 10:27, closed)
name...
and shame them....
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 17:47, closed)
Can you tell us where he worked
Or any other information that will identify the fool responsible?
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 18:06, closed)
I can't remember the name of the place at the moment...
It's some online bookstore though (not Amazon or any of the big ones, I'd never heard of them when he told me).

To be perfectly honest, I suspect he'd rather just get another job and move on, but I will show him this thread and see what he says.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 19:22, closed)
On the upside
He’s not working for a cunt anymore.

There's only legal redress if he can make claim against one of the discrimination laws.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 18:22, closed)
There ...
.. is a special place in Hell reserved for people like that.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 18:28, closed)
What
a f*&^£ing arsehole.

Sounds like a candidate for a bin liner and a few baseball bats out in the countryside to me.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 19:07, closed)
That's just awful news.
Sadly the law only protects those who lose 'dependents'. In which case the length of service doesn't matter. The only hope for comeback is to check the companys own bereavement/compassionate leave policy, (which they should have) and see what that says.
Not that I'm sure he want's to go back to work for an utter hateful nasty cunt like that.
Sorry to hear the news.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 19:18, closed)
Sorry to hear that
What a cunt.

Please DO post some contact details, i think i'd quite like to send the bugger an email.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 19:26, closed)

Very much so. Perhaps not a denial of service attack (though that's a thought if they're an online retailer), but certainly a few snotty e-mails to their customer service e-mail (or cuntybollocks' if we were to be given it) pointing out that we will not be buying from his shop and will be advising our friends and acquaintances to do likewise.
Hit the twat in the pocket, and if he's a mere functionary, cc his boss into the messagesand see how he likes losing his job.

I agree.

1. The poor chap doesn't need any more hassle

2. We, however, the mourning friends of Jessie, can handle plenty off our own bat. Give us this cunt's name, and we can put him in the gutter where he belongs.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 21:01, closed)
or send him fresh turds.

I have food poisoning..
I have PLENTY of these.
(, Tue 15 Jun 2010, 23:52, closed)
Agreed, name and shame
Love to meet the spineless weasel of a manager that did this.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 8:48, closed)
I've seen stuff like that happen here recently
Staff on temp contracts being laid off due to personal tradegy; one girl who was 4 months pregnant was laid off for taking 3 days off to visit her mum in hospital as she had just discovered terminal cancer. There's no words to describe it, inhuman doesn't even come close.
(, Wed 16 Jun 2010, 7:58, closed)
If he still wants to work there (or at least screw them over)
Tell him t ocontact the Human Rights Court and let the manager know.
(, Thu 17 Jun 2010, 9:19, closed)

gah, I can't even type without fucking losing it.

I'll just :( fuckers
