This is a question I don't understand the attraction

Smaug says: Ricky Gervais. Lesbian pr0n. Going into a crowded bar, purely because it's crowded. All these things seem to be popular with everybody else, but I just can't work out why. What leaves you cold just as much as it turns everyone else on?

Justin Lee Collins
Don't get me wrong, he comes across as a nice guy... but he's not funny!!!

He'd probably be... amusing, I guess is the best word for it - but he tries far too hard, and fails as a result.

Why do I seem to be the only person who thinks this?

His affected Bristolian accent grinds my gears.

You are entirely right.
HOWEVER

I saw him do a stand up gig at my local in Somerset well before he was famous. Two things about him:

1. It was perhaps the funniest stand up gig I have ever seen, including Bill Bailey.

2. I had a couple of beers with him afterwards and he is absolutely lovely.

HOWEVER that HOWEVER

When I heard him on the radio, I sighed. I wished my lad good luck, but really - bloody radio adverts?

When I saw The Friday Night Project, I had to accept that he's a bit of a twat.

I don't like the way you said "Including Bill Bailey"
almost as if he is the pinnacle of humour :P

With Part Troll he got pretty bloody near the top.

I tried to quantify why I didn't like JLC the other day
when he came on telly singing "The Impossible Dream" in an advert for some TV show

I couldn't actually come up with any sensible reasons...he just irritates me and I don't know why.

That accent
I'm from Bristol. I've spoken to some of the most Bristolian people ever to exist, but none are like him.

He's definitely hamming it up for comedic effect. Except it's not funny.
