This is a question The Credit Crunch

Did you score a bargain in Woolworths?
Meet someone nice in the queue to withdraw your 10p from Northern Rock?
Get made redundant from the job you hated enough to spend all day on b3ta?

How has the credit crunch affected you?

« Go Back

We can't afford to go out anymore...
So we's off to buy a kitteh :o)

We shall stays in an' stroke his heads

EDIT: For those who can't be arsed to read all the replies....
I now have Kitteh, and he's been named Chewie as he's big, toothy and fuzzy. He's being a total tart at the moment and hiding under the bed and has yet to eat or drink anything of note... totally normal considering he's been used to another place and stuff...
He was exploring last night under cover of darkness and came and head-butted me in the middle of the night for a bit of attention. So he seems to be settling in.

More photos to follow.... :D

weird
i am just about to buy 2 kittehs.

lovely maine coons...and it looks as though we will be cancelling our easter holiday to pay for them/not have to leave them.

what you gonna call yours?

Him's big and fuzzy
"Chewie" I reckon.... or Elwood.
And he's costing us the price of a pint... If we decide to get him that is... Going to see him in an hour or so...

we
were thinking on Nico and Good Boy (Too).

the Good Boy thing is in memory of our previous cat. when we got him, we couldn't think on a name, and as usually happens with animals we simply took to calling him Good Boy, as you do. And it just stuck. Almost everyone thought the name was dead unusual (read - shit) ...i had to disagree, i thought it was a perfectly good name...

So the new one would be called Good Boy (Too), shortened to Good Boy, i would imagine

Or is that just shit and sentimental

That kitteh...
...is the spitting image of my kitteh Jackson!

Lolcat him hard when you get him!

Excellent!
What a lovely kitty! I love his facial expression too.

Bonus clicks for feline content.

Have you ever had Maine Coons before?
We got one around August and they are fantastic!! They act quite like dogs... as in they follow you around everywhere and try to get involved with what your doing.

I've never seen a cat that properly plays fetch before but our one will run after something you throw, pick it up... run back and drop it on your feet and sit there, waiting for you to throw it again. It's great!

Although we were told that they have crap road sense... will just sit there and watch the lorry run over their face... any truth to this people? My parents are scared to let him have his own cat-flap because of this and every other cat we have ever had has had one. It feels a little mean

No
never had one before, but it seems as though they are THE cats to have. I love the fact they grow so big. We are going for 2, brother and sister, as we work 9-4 and it would be nice for them to have some comapany.

Not sure about the road sense thing, but we intend on just letting them out the back, as it is secure. I think they would be more likely to be stolen than run over. And all that fur could hide a plethora of nasty nasties. Apparently they don't mind being indoors, so my conscience would be relatively clear.

My last cat was a house cat for many years, then we moved, it got out and was dead within the year, poisoned by the thick cunt who lived next door, but has fucked off to an abode more suited to his mongoloid persona.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 17:07, closed)
Sorry to hear that...
... I suggest emptying the cats litter tray and posting it to wherever he has monged off to.

They do get huge though its brilliant. Ours is from a Maine Coon breeder and his dad is national champion of being a cat or something. But yeah they get huge. The paws are the best thing when they are young. They are kinda out of proportion with the rest of them so look like little lion paws.

One other thing that my mum has told me about them (She seems to have picked up some crazy-cat-lady behaviours in the last few months) is that apparently if you spay them too early it stops their head growing in line with their body and it looks quite strange. Therefore it’s best to wait a year or so... or as long as you possibly can.

Again, no idea on how accurate that information is as its second hand.

Only other thing I would suggest is to try and not let them outside at all. They are very inquisitive and my parents let ours out every now and then with supervision (I.e. letting him follow when doing the gardening or something) and now he has a taste for the outside. You see him looking out the window and trying to reach the door handle :)
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 17:26, closed)
yeah
i had read that about the spaying as well. however, having a tom cat pissing everywhere wouldn't be acceptable.. I'm not sure what age they start spraying at, but i assume it would be within a year old. I will ask at the vets, see what they say.

The ones we are after are from a proper breeder, expensive, but probably worth it!

Maine Coons rock
Meet Mrs Guts

Not really knowing a huge amount about them- we'd only had mogs prior to this- before getting her from a rescue centre (£60- very credit crunch friendly) she took a little getting used to. She's a big girl and has the aerodynamics and agility of a transit van which can be problematic if she fancies "going high." She does indeed follow you round and likes to be with you were possible- keyboards are a particular favourite. She is bloody noisy- meows, warbles, chirrups and beeps (yes beeps) are all in the retinue.

We live in a cul de sac so her road sense has never been extensively tested but it doesn't seem bad. She's allowed out whenever she wants (although this required a dog flap to be fitted) and doesn't seem to go too far- I've heard that males can be a bit more wayward though. She has fought other cats though- she's been undamaged but I've forked out to repair the loser.

Do it- you won't regret it.

I like her!
Does she have any friends looking for a home?

The bigger the cat, the better.
(, Wed 28 Jan 2009, 0:19, closed)
We have a Maine mix
She's quite large and an absolute darling; she sleeps next to me on the bed every night, follows me around the house all day and loves to play and interact with her people. She also plays fetch, but she'll only bring her mousie when she feels like it; if she isn't interested in fetching, there is no fetch no matter how much we try.

It's good of you to take on an adult cat

Congrats on getting him!

Jeez.
That is one big cat. Is he part mountain lion?

There's only one name for a cat with that expression - Greebo.
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 16:21, closed)
Good for you!
I'm a big cat fan, I own 2, plus a dog. My sister bought a rescue cat yesterday, so it looks like cats are the flavour of the month! He will give you way more pleasure that nights out on the piss and he gets a good home out of it too! Best of luck with him, he looks like a great hunter!
(, Tue 27 Jan 2009, 16:41, closed)
The Big Black Hissy Thing
may in fact be part Maine Coon- no idea, as she was from the ASPCA. But she's gotten very big, very fluffy and likes to be nearby whenever I'm home.

Gives me the warm fuzzies just thinking about it.

He is all of the win!
Utterly gorgeous!

Can't beat a nice pussy.

Huh?

Please?

We have him :)
And he's called Chewie :D

If only he'd come out from behind the sofa... new surroundings and all :D

I can't believed you played the kitteh card!
gratuitous fluffeh pictures, meh.

I'm going to stay indoors and stroke my pussy during the credit crunch too, but you don't see me posting photos.

...on size grounds CHCB!

That's a gorgeous Ginge you've got there :)
My cat is part Maine coon and he's all of the win. Follows me around and has to know what I'm doing all the time.

They're not always lovely though as this was a pure bred vicious bastard one night shift I did...

Fuck my arse with a broom handle! That's huge!
My lad's similar to Humpty's ...... Got him aged 3 or 4 from the shelter and he's the best 60 quid ever spent.

Well fornicate me sideways
with a blunt marrow, but he looks like my cat too, as previously mentioned!

Apologies for lolcatness of image.
(, Thu 29 Jan 2009, 6:28, closed)
Excellent cat!
We have a British Shorthair tomcat. He's the most handsome cat in the world and is also a big hefty 6.5kg boy.

The great thing about British Shorthairs is that they can't meow properly like other cats- ours makes a strange sort of strangled GRAAAAAGH sound, which scares the crap out of visitors.

Although he's in my bad books today as he spent all last night poking me for attention. I've had about 3 hours sleep. Bah.
(, Wed 28 Jan 2009, 11:50, closed)
Humpty...

Am I the only one that is slightly worried about what the person who is holding Chewie is doing with the middle two fingers on their left hand?

oh.
(, Wed 28 Jan 2009, 17:26, closed)
yes you are :)
He's HUGE :) ... the hand is full of leg :D
(, Wed 28 Jan 2009, 18:35, closed)
By the way...
...as he is ginger, he'll be a huge wuss. It is the way of things.
(, Thu 29 Jan 2009, 6:30, closed)
It's funny you should mention that..
...But he certainly seems to be a wussy so far, though I'd attributed that to him being torn from familiar surroundings and being rather scared of his new ones until he gets to know them... :o/
