This is a question B3TA fixes the world

Moon Monkey says: Turn into Jeremy Clarkson for a moment, and tell us about the things that are so obviously wrong with the world, and how they should be fixed. Extra points for ludicrous over-simplification, blatant mis-representation, and humourous knob-gags.

"Oh you like that film do you? It’s sooooooo over rated."

Although a useful phrase for identifying wankers I still think it should be outlawed. There should only be one way allowed to disapprove of films, music, books artists etc and that’s to compare them unfavourably to an example that you think is better. So instead of…

“Inception was soooo overrated”

We have

“Inception was boring , but I found the emotional connection I made with Twilight overwhelming.”

Also anytime someone claims that the first record they ever bought was by the Clash / Sex Pistols rather then the Wombles / Goodies you’re legally obliged to punch them on the nose.

My first record? I’m a Nut by Leroy Pullins.

*PSST*
Rather THAN.

Other than that, I agree. (Although I'd rather chew my right arm off than watch Twilight.)
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 10:58, closed)

I guy a work with was taken to the cinema on his Birthday by his wife. She decided on Twilight…again. He really should just hand them over in a jar.

Mine was "Hip Hop and Rappin in the house"
Followed by "Tougher Than Leather" by Run DMC.

But then, I'm naturally kewl.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 10:58, closed)
But Inception really did fail to live up to the hype surrounding it.
It's not a bad film, but it goes on too long and isn't as clever as everyone seems to think.

First records I parted with money for were albums by Chaka Demus & Pliers and Culture Beat, when I got my first CD player, thus invalidating my opinion on musicial taste.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 10:59, closed)
I split our student house in two by claiming that CDs were better than vinyl.
People actually fell out over it.

Bloody students.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:07, closed)
Oh god, you weren’t living with the sort of tards who think vinyl is better were you?

One of them's a B3tan - he was sensible.
But passions were raised.

That was played with a very straight bat
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:50, closed)
But...
The first record I ever bought WAS 'Never Mind The Bollocks'.

Oh, no, wait, I'm confusing it with 'The Saturday Superstore Replay Collection Volume II' again, sorry.

For shame.

My first record
was a godawful local commercial radio station's comparably godawful charity single. It remained the only single I'd ever bought for about 10 years, until "Can't Stop These Things" by China Drum came out. I bought that for the sake of the "Wuthering Heights" cover on the b-side.

My first album was "Now 12" on tape - and, by coincidence, "Bad Young Brother" by Derek B (side 4, track 4, IIRC) has been going around my head all morning...

EDIT: Track 3, it appears. Close, though!
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:26, closed)
I can't remember which one
but mine is one of the following:
WWF Superstars, Slam Jam
Arrested Development, Mr. Wendal
USURA, Open Your Mind
Chaka Demus and Pliers, Tease Me

All top hits.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:31, closed)
Open Your Mind
is a classic. As is Mr Wendal. Good choices (but we all know the WWF one was your first).
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:36, closed)
I have a sneaking
suspicion that it was but I remember buying two cassettes (yes, cassettes) that day. I think it was WWF and Mr. Wendal but I couldn't be too sure.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:58, closed)
Desperate for something new to listen to on the walkman,
but lacking any real money, I bought a couple of cassingles. What a waste of money - no B-sides, just the same song, twice.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:07, closed)
USURA wasn't dire...
...in the same way that Chaka Demus and Pliers was.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:53, closed)
Wow, you're so old you can remember when people actually paid for music

(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:33, closed)
I still do.
On disc.

From a shop.

Shut up.

(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:08, closed)
My first record was not music
It was the Not The Nine O'Clock News LP

I did have quite a cool auntie who bought me School's Out For Summer by Alice Cooper and Rebel Rebel by Bowie, but at the time I didn't have a record player. I ended up using them as frisbees, because I didn't have one of those either.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 11:42, closed)
I heard that /talk is in the same boat.

I thought Inception was pants
Although the premise was promising, the script was really, really bad in parts with some obvious inconsistencies and unnecessary padding.

Parts of it actually made me laugh out loud in the cinema.

Whenever a critic suggests "The best film since The Matrix", it actually means is "it borrows a lot from The Matrix but is quite a bit more shit". That's a lesson it took me a while to learn.

Now That's What I Call Music 18
High Points
The Beautiful South: "A Little Time"
INXS: "Suicide Blonde"
Public Image Ltd: "Don't ask me"

Low points
Bombalurina: "Itsy bitsy..."
Kylie Minogue: "Step back in time"
Betty Fucking Boo: "Where are you baby?"
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:02, closed)
Nineteen, Not Out by The Commentators.
I didn't even like fucking cricket. I was young and it was in the bargain 7" bin in Woolworths.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:07, closed)
This is a proper first record

(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:11, closed)
Thank you. Pretending I was buying anything cool when I was 12 would be like denying I
shit my nappy when I was a baby.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:15, closed)

Exactly!

It’s those who claim their first words were “Mummy! You do realize that the Beatles are over rated.” That we need to hunt down.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:21, closed)
I've made a point of exposing my kids to what I believe is "good music",
but I know it'll all be for naught when they turn into teenagers and realise that anything I like must be terribly uncool.

can be considered a high point of anything.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:10, closed)
So therefore you're a Bombalurina man?

(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:12, closed)
If it came to a choice,
I'd pick Timmy Mallet over Paul Heaton, yes.

the 1st I bought was one step beyond- by Madness
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:11, closed)
Pinky and Perky rocked.
Madness weren't so bad either.
(, Thu 29 Sep 2011, 12:16, closed)
Madness were great because everyone in school liked them and would
dance along at school discos. Not so fond of them any more, but at they time they were the best.
