Cleaning up after student nights at a nightclub is not fun. Take my word for it.

I was naive: I expected when I began that the gents'd be worse than the ladies' - I thought this for all kinds of reasons. Some were anatomical, of course; some were simply that I expected male students to be loutier. (Is that a word?)

I was wrong.

The gents' was grim, but the ladies' was horrible. For some reason, the smell wouldn't go away, even though I'd mopped just about everywhere. I shrugged, picked up the bucket, and was leaving when something caught my eye. A poster on the wall was beginning to detatch itself.

It was amazing it had lasted that long. It was held on by sick.

My brother was a squatter
in Hulme, Manchester for the best part of a decade, and as such witnessed some really foul living conditions.

However, nothing prepared him for the lavatory in our little sister's shared house when she was at Birmingham University - all girls, and truly the most repellent sight you could imagine. He'd never seen anything so bad.

And she gave us Carling to drink when we got there...the horror....

my little tale is set in Birmingham Univeristy Guild of Students Students' Union. It was a horrible place at the best of times.

I have found this to be a constant nearly wherever one may be.
I volunteered on a kibbutz for three months; I was in the dining hall. The dining hall was right in the centre of the kibbutz and had two toilets, the two most used toilets in the kibbutz. The men's toilets were quite reasonable, to be honest, the women's, on the other hand... oh, dear, god. I decided to study this phenomenon a little, as I felt it was of great importance to me... as I was the one cleaning them after all, and decided that it was mainly the American women who produced most of the mess. When I then furthered the study to the men's shitter I came to the conclusion that 'Anglo-Saxim' as they are known in Israel (Brits, Canadians, Australians, Americans, etc.) are all dirty bastards.
