No photos on the top post please ! Just general in case anyone's working, which I doubt, but could be.
I heard today that word got to the head huncho about the grilling I got and everyone in management is furrious that they would kick their little puppy of a developer, especially one they anounced today that a client doubled their advertisng for next quater on the basis of something I did about 3 or 4 weekends ago =D
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 18:47, Reply)
Awwww
*pats puppy on head*

How are you feeling tonight then?
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 18:49, Reply)
Good and Bad in many ways.
The whole company is having drinks on the company tonight, proper good bar in farringdon, cocktails'n'shit. But I really don't like big crowds so ducked out. I think it sucks that I'm like that, espesh when I used to totally be so awesome at that.

But I'm happy that people have my back at work. And I'm taking Ma' out for her birthday tomo, we're gonna see Les Mis and get a bite to eat. And I have a really nice healthy duck salad for dinner that I've made. And I have a shitload of american sweets. And there are lots of good things in my life and I'm not particuarly waiting for the ball to drop, just enjoying each day.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 18:59, Reply)
I've just got some pork out of the freezer for later.
It's in a sink full of warm water defrosting, then it's gonna be a stir fry.

I am also stupidly excited about starting work on Monday.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 18:51, Reply)
Maybe I should check B3TA a bit more often
Well done! Which one did you get? Not the one in Sunderland?
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 18:53, Reply)
No, job with Big Lottery I interviewed for in January and didn't get.
They rang me last week as someone had left and they wanted to know if I was still interested. It's temporary, but it's a start, and I can still keep looking in the meantime.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 18:55, Reply)
Hats off
It's also work and being gainfully occupied is astonishingly intrinsically rewarding.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:04, Reply)
Tell me about it.
Whilst the first couple of months of redundancy were quite nice, it soon gets tedious when you're conscious that the money won't last forever... I've been going out to watch nearly every Newcastle match this season as it's about the only chance I get to see some different faces.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:09, Reply)
This may sound massively contradictory
i.e. being conscious about money and then going out, but I generally only have a couple of pints...
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:11, Reply)
Something I do miss
Although I used to work with a bunch of bellends the interaction aspect is something I don't have now.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:15, Reply)
OH MAN !
Where you working? Good pay? Good people? fun work? Oh man, ace news =D
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 18:59, Reply)
It's grant work for the Lottery, so similar to stuff I've been doing for the last ten years.
Pay's not as good as I was on, but they've started me on the band maximum, which is good. I just hope I get an extension on the contract as it's currently only until the end of May.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:02, Reply)
Knock 'em off their feet, show 'em your the best god damn thing they ever did or could hire. They'll extend that right up.

(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:04, Reply)
That's kind of my plan...

One or two, best to know your audiance.
Some of sickipedia is great and imaginative, but most of it is "Two pakis set off a bomb in nigger neighbourhood, who has the most loss? Not society" and "Hahahhaha, raping kids.".

Not a happy bunny, due to car being dead my mate was gonna pick me up en route to another mates house and now he has pulled out as he is tired and I can;t get there. Never mind, I'll watch a flick with house mate.

Looking forward to Jeffstock next weekend though. I get to meet all you lovely folk.

Nice way to celebrate first week in a new job though.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:01, Reply)
I thought so.
It's highly unlikely we'll get away on holiday this year, so that was the justification for booking.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:02, Reply)

Why the hell not, worst places to holiday than Bristol me old fruit. It's a marvellous place.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:04, Reply)
I've been a couple of times for work purposes.
Liked the look of the place but didn't really get a chance to explore.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:07, Reply)

It's mainly lovely with some lively areas, like all places. I recommend chilling on the Downs if the weather is nice. Blaise Castle is also lovely for walks. The Olive Shed on the waterfront is a great little tapas bar with cool buskers. Loads of great galleries, I like the Arnolfini and M-Shed. DUde there is loads to look at in the centre. If you have anything special you want to do gaz me (or BigBastardBob) and I'll sort you out.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:12, Reply)
Cheers. We won't arrive until about 10pm on the Friday.
So we'll probably just crash straight away. But we fly back on Sunday at 9pm, so hopefully we'll get a bit of a chance to explore before and after the bash. I did have half a plan to have a look at the zoo.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:16, Reply)

It's not worth it for the price. In fact it's not been worth it for years. I would save your pennies and give it a miss? if you have kids there is a petting zoo not far out from the centre which is cool.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:18, Reply)
I'll have a think about it.
We're nice and central anyway, so I'm sure we'll find something to do.

Good choice Gonz, do you read? as I highly recommend the books.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:01, Reply)
I read all the time, I don't think I would like the books, but I said that about telly show and <3 it.
I'm currently reading World's End, Cavy recomended it to me, donno the author but its about dragons'n'mythology shit only set in modern england.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:02, Reply)

You should check them out then, I always ask as some people hate reading.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:04, Reply)
Yeah', most of my mates I grew up with don't like to read for pleasure, I actually got into it from taking the piss.
I was on a lads holiday, 15 of us in 'raki, at 17 years old. Had never picked up a book in my life, except for Goosebumps, and that was only to look cool, only read 3 of them all the way through. He was reading some army book, it was a real story, about the guy in "Alpha Two Zero" who saved McNab from "Bravo Two Zero". I knicked the book from him to get to do something instead of reading, and then I started reading it and I was hooked.

From then, I went through ever Andy McNab and Chris Ryan book of the time, with a handful of one-off-writters, by the time I was 20 I had read a few dozen army books, then moved onto other authors like Dean Kontz and Martina Cole and Michael Chricton.

There are only a few books I've read more than once, but these books I've read 4 or 5 times. They're "The Magicians" and "The Magician King" by Lev Grossman, Jurrasic Park + sequal and finally the K-Pax books.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:12, Reply)

I never got into non-fiction but will read a good bio if it's someone I'm interested in. If you like fantasy writing with a more realistic edge try David Gemmell, bit less serious than GOT but really good. His Greek stuff was great. Troy, and Lion of Macedon series.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:14, Reply)
I love a good bit of mythology, but I like a modern setting, can't handle anything before WW2 at the earliest, unless timetravel is involved.

(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:24, Reply)
You might also like "Dies The Fire" by SM Stirling
Modern world where electricity and internal combustion stop working. Massive die-off, survivors are Wiccans and LARPers and others with useful skills. Bit of magic hinted at, too.
(, Fri 13 Apr 2012, 19:19, Reply)
Oh cool, I'll check it out =)
