What's up Friday night shutins?
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 18:57, 330 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
Housemate wants to go and see The Avengers.
I might tag along, breaks up this workload. Everyone else is going out, I shouldn't but I'm slowly leaning towards it.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 19:14, Reply)
Nah' man, it'll be well gush, filled the brim with pricks who order coffee at the picture house.
I'm waiting two weeks for it.

Here's two profound questions
Can I be arsed going out?

Can I be arsed going to the offy if I don't go out?
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 19:16, Reply)
I've just taken 22 pills and a can of V energy drink.
I fucking love friday nights, I got jacket potato and blue cheese for dinner, and this month is the first month I've had in a year where payday on monday will see me with plus money instead of being even.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 19:24, Reply)
That's a lorra lorra pills
I went for the offy option.

I spent the day traipsing around London in the rain
Ended up at a flat I saw first time round that had has an offer pull out.I put in an offer on it. Now I'm going to watch some Telly and drink Genever.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 19:24, Reply)

Google it
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 20:20, Reply)
do you need to put in offers on rentals these days
Or are you buying?
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 19:35, Reply)
in London the market is really strong
some people offer over the asking price to secure somewhere
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 19:47, Reply)
have to make am offer of what you're willing to pay
Then when you agree there's reference checks and such.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 20:22, Reply)
I'm still a bit zonked from the day
-a coworker is very very cross about something, I'm not quite directly involved, but I've been hiding anyway as the tension in the staff room is palpable
-All the students were hyper (it was an exam, which in art subjects is like a mass arseaboutandpanic-athon)
-Some students got me and the other lecturer cards, wine and chocolate (yay)
-All the parents came in and we did a presentation. It was great, except (due to stupid computer issues) two students work got missed off, thus I ended the day with a telling off from a parent, which made me feel like a shit.

Sure wish I'd not left that wine at work
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 19:41, Reply)

I donno that one.
I like to get a series of starters or single things when I get an indi'bums, like a 1/4 tandoori, butterfly prawn, some chipati or naan. Sometimes I go for a saucy one though, but never anything hotter then an average masala.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 20:22, Reply)
I like the saucy ones, myself.
I discovered this one by accident; for years I hadn't noticed it on the menu then decided to try it. It's probably about as hot as I would go, though; you can still taste the ingredients above the heat.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 20:27, Reply)
That's a bit weird actually, 'bout me... with chinese I'm all about the sauce, but not with the indian.
I think it's 'cus the indian ones are so rich or spicy that it does my guts in, and it ain't worth it. I'm very expermental when it comes to kinds of asian cooking except non-oriental asian.

I need to go to one with a handful of people where we all share it like you'd share a chinese.

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 20:17, Reply)
Fuck rocks the big one, thought i'd hate it, but I love it.
It's a fantasy set in a faux europe in middle ages, where the myths of dragons'n'shit that were long gone, are coming back. It's really really complicated with its characters, but they have so much depth. Plus they have no quarms with killing off lead roles throughout the series.

Yeah' I'm a bit gutted because the new manager has distroyed and dysmantled an amazing team. I'm actually a bit bitter about that.
They have a redundancy/hr team in to deal with this, and I seriously (but proffesionally) let rip into that manager. He's bang out of order on so many levels.

I'm gonna email the boss this weekend to thank him for an amazing job that I love beyond belief, but also to warn him about that snake that has come in.

But I'm alright job wise,
I only decided I was actually leaving on wed night, and I'm on page 3 of my email from all the people wanting to get at me, and I have litterally had 100s of calls, no exasoration at all. I'm well in demand.

(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 20:34, Reply)
Not precisely
The rythmic spring of a poem - it's pattern of rythmn - is called the pentameter.

Until the 1950's the wool mills in Bradford would close for a couple of weeks in Summer
And every day there'd be about 6 special trains to Morecambe and back.

That's two neat bookends of my life (born near Morecambe, live in Bradford) and I've always fancied writing a doggerel epic of a day to Morecambe, but defining every hour with a different pentameter to express the emotions.

That would almost be brilliant
All it lacks is the syntax-defying wranglings that only the truly bad use to effect a plausible scan - eg:-

I thought tonight that to the pub I'd go
But then in the back of my mind I did know
That I must take my cat to the vet on the morrow
And if a night in The Thornhill I did choose
I'd roll up at the vets stinking of booze
And to the RSPCA my kitty I'd lose.

It's Spreadshirt.
You upload the design, people buy the shirt, spreadshirt tell you how much it costs and you add on a cut and keep that.

It's only something like £2 a shirt, but it saves you the hassle of doing all the production and shipping.

Drunk in control of a vehicle?
but really the only life you're risking is your own, it's not like driving drunk. Even so, I don't like doing it.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:30, Reply)
I think you can be stopped, but I'm not sure what the specific offence is.
It is fun though. Your increased heart rate pumps the alcohol through your brain a lot quicker. You do need to sit down for ten minutes afterwards though.

You don't need a driving license for a bike
But no, I've had some wobbly and scary moments riding my push-iron home pissed and I'd not recommend it.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:33, Reply)
AFAIK the same laws apply to any vehicle, bikes included
although people tend to turn a blind eye with bikes because they are less dangeous, but they are still classed as a vehicle.

I cycled drunk once, never again, fuck me.

How can they?
As above, you don't need a license for a bike.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:35, Reply)
And?
doesn't stop then fining you of banging you up, speed limit's the same, although it rarely matters. A push bike is definitely legally a vehicle, trust me on that, the rest is a bit less certain, but generally if it's an offence in a car it's an offence on a bike

You don't need a license to wander around on the pavements
but the police will still stop you if you're careening around being a pissed up hazard to yourself and/or others.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:38, Reply)
Replying to both
Yes I'm sure the police can pull you and I expect it'd be drunk and disorderly, but surely can't be the same offence as drunk driving.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:41, Reply)
not a lot of difference between the damage you can do, or even the speeds you can reach
on a bike and a small moped.

in any event, in the real world cyclists get away with a lot of shit that is flat out illegal because no one cares
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:45, Reply)
Are you telling us that you can get nicked for speeding on a pushbike?
Never mind the moped - you need a provisional for that.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 21:51, Reply)
If you coud get one over 30 I would assume so, why not.
should be possible I could get my mountainbike up to 25, here: this summarises a lot of bike law, it's long so best to skip to the bit that interests: www.bikehub.co.uk/featured-articles/cycling-and-the-law/

Edit: OK, I was wrong on speeding.

You can be fined but it's NOT the same as drivers of motorised vehicles.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:02, Reply)
Very difficult for a cyclist to kill someone by cycling at speed or while pissed.
Very different story for a car.

Then again, I can just imagine how different the literary landscape would be if JG Ballard had written Crash about bikes rather than cars.

it has been done a couple of times
but it's not easy, takes skill.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:06, Reply)
fair do's
but as a rule of thumb, if it's an offence on one it's an offece on the other and most of the highway code applies.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:04, Reply)
The point I think I was getting at all along
Is that I have a driving license and if I break the law whilst driving I must accept the consequences of points.

If I break those laws whilst cycling, I don't have to produce my license because I don't need a license to ride a bike - nul points.
(, Fri 27 Apr 2012, 22:10, Reply)
well, yes
you can't loose what you don't have. but a lot of people seem to think this means that cyclists are immune from the law and aso don't belong on the roads, neitherof which is true.

looking back the ony thhing I've been wrong on is the speed limit, but i may have missed the point, in which case sorry.

That's actually something I do do on here and in that there real world. My housemates think it's hilarious/beyond annoying, I don't even know I'm doing it :(

On your way down.
Stop off and do a bit of work on the boat then.

I can put you up.

It really is annoying.
Mr b3th does it all the time. It's like he can't have a thought without expressing it.
I also have a friend with a prepubescent son who does it. He's dreading the monologue that's going to accompany the difficult teenage years.

The girl I'm currently seeing says it's "too cute".
Which is good enough for me. She panics when I stop because she thinks something's seriously wrong, such are the frequency of my musings.

Believe me, after a while, it becomes fucking annoying.

Nothing that ever comes out of this pretty mouth could ever be considered annoying.

Yeah.
I might be a fat minter with no tits and a normal husband.

I don't differ too much in real life from the way I am here. The main difference is I'm a little more shy and self conscious. That's why I tend to imagine other people are the same. And why Roota has to keep telling me off for telling the internet things.

My phone had to be rebooted a few months ago. It was really annoying having to teach it all the best swear words again.

The air conditioning unit in the blow moulding supervisors' office is marketed by a company called Munters.
It makes me grin.

I'm thinking out loud again but I don't care. I can't put into words what this song does to me, Jane Harley's vocals make me burst with happiness. Like proper, proper happiness. God I'm in a good mood.
