Greece
Hard done by or should Athens bus drivers earn EUR56k a year?
(, Tue 15 May 2012, 22:46, 2 replies, latest was 12 years ago)
You're asking an ex-bus driver!
Best you'll get outside the cesspit of London is £22k.

London you might make £30k for a good depot, which is about what they're asking.

As a Manager I was on £28.5K.

So that must sound like fucking lunacy?
Cepting we privatized to keep the working gash down!!!
(, Tue 15 May 2012, 22:53, Reply)
No, we privatised so that the public could pay way over the odds an inferior and steadily declining service, and for governmental bodies to abrogate all responsibility for said service while still raking in the tax for it.
It's the best known way to avoid getting clobbered under the Sale Of Goods Act.

I like you, my friend.
I can't type fast enough to do justice to my soapbox on this.

To an extent
There is a core of employees dedicated to the service, and a core of management dedicated to that.

There will always be a company prepared to work on lower margins. In our area my former employer and increasingly TLC of Bradford.

They're expanding then.
If I remember rightly, a few years ago their operations were pretty much limited to semi-rural South Yorkshire and a few services round Hemsworth/South Elmsall way.

TLC have always been Bradford
Centrebus started out from Huddersfield and have been expanding since.

Great to work for as a menial, but not too good when you need to manage a quart into a pint pot. That's their model. I couldn't work with it but I learned a lot.
(, Tue 15 May 2012, 23:23, Reply)
Yes it does.
I still drive because I love it, but a casual driver - sounds daft but there's a lot of us about - won't work for less than £9 an hour.

That's possibly misleading - I'm a good driver with a good reputation. There are bad drivers working for ropey firms for less.

But the Greek state wage is just nuts. 56k, I'd like some of that.

(, Tue 15 May 2012, 23:10, Reply)
Yes it is.
Ask the people in your local town hall what they do for their money.
(, Tue 15 May 2012, 23:14, Reply)
This time next year they'll be earning 5.6 million drachmas a year.

3 and 6 n a pickled egg?

(, Tue 15 May 2012, 22:54, Reply)
Well yes, that will be all the exchange rate will afford them should they come over here.
But I think they'd live with that, rather than have the Germans tell them what to do.
(, Tue 15 May 2012, 22:56, Reply)
They just want a little piece!
