How long does your homebrew wine need to sit in the bottle?

(, Thu 24 May 2012, 14:24, Reply)
Depends
Some of them sit in the Demijohn for 6 months then the bottle for another 6, others you can bottle after 2 months and drink after 3
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 14:27, Reply)
Plus my homebrew stuff is more like a mead or sherry most of the time
Due to the strain of yeast I use couples with good nutrients and lots of sugar it comes out at about 19%
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 14:28, Reply)
Cool, I don't really have anywhere to store stuff for that long.
But i do want to give it a go at some point.

(, Thu 24 May 2012, 14:55, Reply)
Any good? How much did it cost you?

(, Thu 24 May 2012, 14:58, Reply)
About 70 quid. The basic package was about £50 but I needed some extra pipe and dripping things (like Monty's penis)
I've not installed it yet but my in-lawas have something similar and they are quite happy with it.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:00, Reply)
That's not bad.
I've been giving it some consideration. Must be the unseasonly nice weather.
It'll probably be pissing down next week anyway.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:03, Reply)
Last year the stuff I tried to grow all died because I didn't water it regularly enough
so this year I decided not to take the risk.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:05, Reply)
What did you grow?
I've got hanging baskets front and back, and a couple of raised beds round the back with carrots, lettuce, spring onions, etc.

Tried growing cabbages and strawberries but some wee fucker was eating them after dark.

Was it Al?

(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:13, Reply)

THAT'S what we can all dread
more vegetable talk. at least vippers is no longer of this parish, to join in!
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:20, Reply)
You really wish your dad had bought you a flat with a garden so that you could grow some strawberries.
But sadly, you're stuck in your concrete wasteland, whereas we will be enjoying a nice cold beer in our respective gardens tonight.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:22, Reply)
i hate strawberries, the seeds get in the way
i have two nice balconies on a shady street and i am about 4 mins walk from holland park, or a 15 min walk from hyde park. so i'm not complaining, ta.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:25, Reply)
4 minutes is still a long way comapred with 0 minutes.

(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:29, Reply)
i'd prefer holland park to a couple of fenced-in square feet overlooked by everyone else, which is all you get in london
when i want a real garden, i'll go up to cheshire and lie around my dad's. and if i ever want one for good, i'll sell the flat and buy something else. but i would want assurances as to the hotness of the gardener before committing myself to a move like that.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:33, Reply)
I got my chard seeds the other day.
I'm going to build a self-irrigating container for them.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:59, Reply)

I'm looking forward to having some holidays
specifically - not being at work and being able to swim in the sea every day.
Also, after several years of being a miserable cunt and not doing anything to celebrate my birthday, I am planning on having a party this August.

I am, however, dreading the travelling to and from holidays with two children. And also Mrs Dupinblue, who is a nightmare to get anywhere and does not believe in travelling light.

Alt: Always beer.

(, Thu 24 May 2012, 14:58, Reply)
Just walk or Boris bike it everywhere in the summer.
I get off at London Bridge or Charing Cross and walk/bike to wherever I need to go. Shades on, earphones in and a big smile slapped across my chops.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 14:59, Reply)
ah but darling
you're not going to work in a stupid pencil-skirted lawyer suit (ie black, navy or charcoal) with high heels. i guess i could organise a complex system of jeans and leggings and suits, but....

Could you not organise a complex system of cycling to work in gymwear
and showering/changing once you're there?
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:26, Reply)
it's getting the clean clothes to work
and the dirty clothes home again, it foxes me. i'd rather just go to the gym at the end of my road and then shower in the peace of my own pretty and private bathroom.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:27, Reply)
This has always perplexed me too.
I'd cycle to work if the clothes bit was easy and not a massive fucking hassle. And if I had work to go to.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:31, Reply)
i wouldn't cycle
but i'd walk it. i walk home about 3 nights a week when the weather is nice enough, it's a nice 90 min stroll through the various parks.

and the horrific strand, but you can't have everything :(

(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:20, Reply)
Rory called scaryduck a nonce and an alcoholic
scaryduck edited his post.
Battered/baldmonkey among others decided that rory got too much attention by getting mod edited and then spent the last two weeks saying pretty much what rory said all over the boards of b3ta, hoping it would make them look cool and popular.
IT TOTALLY WORKED
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:23, Reply)
There seemed to be an actual story though
Rather than just calling someone
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:24, Reply)
I can guess at the story being something along the lines of scaryduck getting drunk a couple of times
plus maybe dating someone a year younger than him when he was 17.
It's all bollocks, it always is.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:26, Reply)
This is what I thought it might be

(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:29, Reply)
Rory is quite good at what he does
He appreciates that the internet cannot see smoke without believing there to be fire.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:26, Reply)
he's actually very good at advice when you tell him something real though
sorry to piss on his internet chips, but i think secretly he's quite nice. he just hides it REALLY well.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:28, Reply)
Hang on a minute here
You have had such a go at me for being mean on the internet whilst totally discounting the opinion of people who you know who say I'm nice.

So why on earth should we believe what you just said?
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:31, Reply)
nobody in real life has ever said you are nice. they just post it on here, but it's a whole different story in the pub
but you don't have to believe me. it's the INTERNET. believe whatever makes you happy!
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:34, Reply)
I heard he was an alcoholic paedo.

As far as I can tell
It was one of Rory's spurious rumours.
Whether its origins go back further than that, I do not know.
They seem to like it over on /talk too though.

I am dreading spending the next three months in this fucking lab
if the weather stays like this. It's hot as Satan's ballsack in here today. 29 fucking degrees, and I have to wear this stupid polyester spacesuit and two pairs of gloves. I think I'm going to melt.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:23, Reply)
Just think of it as a Turkish sauna.
Imagine all the weight you'll lose.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:25, Reply)
Yes but the weight I'll lose
will be my brain liquefying and dribbling out of my ears.

Do you need your brain particularly?
I hope there's plenty of water available at your lab.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:30, Reply)
I do a bit, you know
there's water downstairs but it's a massive fucking faff getting changed to come out of the lab and then signing back in and putting your disgusting sweaty spacesuit back on. I'll just tough it out for another 40 minutes then I'm going to have a brain-freeze inducing diet coke and possibly a cornetto.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 15:39, Reply)
What are you doing in the lab that requires so much protective clothing?

Has she got TB? Will we have to put her down?

I am inordinately fond of grandaughter No 2, who is fantastically un-bothered with the whole fake plastic girly scene. She's proper indie, and is one of those really unusual teenagers who has her own style.
Today she posted a 'duckface' photo on facebook. The girl's a comic genius.

I bought tickets to see Kelly Clarkson the other day and I was thinking it was such a shame you were over in 'merica or we could all have gone together and linked arms and swayed back and forth when she played "Because of You" or "Beautiful Disaster".

I'm back now.
I want beer, then wine, then spirits please.

1. Ice-cold Kirin out of a glass that's been in the freezer.
2. A quality Malbec
3. XO Hennessy

Then a mountain of Peruvian flake, and a bag of Amnesia Haze pot please.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 16:24, Reply)
I'm going for a beer in one minute.
It wasn't amnesia haze that spannered you last night was it?
Had that last time I was in Amsterdam - it's lovely.
(, Thu 24 May 2012, 16:27, Reply)
That was a Northern Lights of some kind.
AH tastes fucking lovely. The nicest green I've ever had was actually developed by a friend of a friend and it was a cannabis cup entrant I think- it's called ESP. Once tasted, never forgotten.
