This is a QotW answer A question for Londinians
So on Friday I will be travelling from Euston to Oxford Circus via the Victoria Line, for to get to the Yorkshire Grey.

I can purchase, with my "getting to Euston in the first place" rail ticket, a travelcard covering Zones1&2 for £5.60. Is this better/as good as buying a return to Oxford Circus once I get to Euston?

It seems like it ought to be worse for that much, but this is London so who knows?

Well, I'm assuming someone does or there's no point in asking. Opinions?

This is a QotW comment Get the travelcard
It will be cheaper, unless you have an Oyster card.

They're trying to get everyone on Oyster, so a 'return' is just 2 x singles - will be £8 for that journey.

So yeah, get the travelcard, or get an Oyster card when you get to London and then use that, may as well have one as they're a lot cheaper than buying tickets.

This is a QotW comment Tfl are a bunch of thieving ripoff bastards...
As I understand (I've been using an Oyster card for a while now which is priced differently to cash tickets), single, cash fares are charged about £4 in each direction, so in this instance, picking up the travelcard for £5.60 (which I believe is the regular price, not necessarily any special price) is the winnar.

This is a QotW comment If you definitely want to get the toob
Then get the travelcard.

Having said that, if it were me (and if you're talking this Yorkshire Grey: www.beerintheevening.com/pubs/s/91/916/Yorkshire_Grey/Fitzrovia), then I'd walk. It'd only take 20min from Euston, which to be honest is probably as long as it'd take to get the tube to Oxford Circus. Depends on how much you trust your sense of direction. Or Google Maps's.

I suspected a rip-off but I didn't expect it to be that bad.

I pay £2 to get from my local station into Birmingham or £4 all the way to e.g. Leamington Spa. But TfL charge me that for a 3 minute tube journey!

Edit: Concrete Cow - if my past track record is anything to go by I WILL get lost and risk missing the last train. Less to go wrong catching the tube. Having said that, Goodge Street might be a slightly longer walk but at least it's on the way towards Euston. Maybe I'll go for that one instead.

This is a QotW comment I was under the impression
that with an Oyster, you can never be charged more than a travelcard cost.

So you pay full price for a single, or two, or however many til it gets to travelcard price, and then it stops..

SO I was told, and that's what I hope!

Prepay non registered oyster seems to be the cheapest and best way for me to get about anyway.

Something to think about in future perhaps.

This is a QotW comment Oyster Cards
You should be able to pick one up at Euston station, they have (if memory serves) automatic dispensers near the ticket machines in the underground station which I think are £3 for the card with £3 credit preloaded. Should be enough for a return in zone 1.

This is a QotW comment Well I definitely won't buy a travelcard next time
Wish I hadn't jumped the gun now.
