Are you a QOTWer? Do you want to start a thread that isn't a direct answer to the current QOTW? Then this place, gentle poster, is your friend.

Why are there no reply buttons to replies in QOTW threads
I've re-added them to Off Topic.
This could be unpopular, but there's so many replies which are "@username I agree!" then a 500 word post as per usual.
This makes life a lot more readable.
To make your lives easier, the "replies" count now counts subreplies.
For any complaints, gaz me and I'll do my best to help.

A JMG favourite!
I take it you're here for the takeover?
I must dash, myself. O****** *irl and all that.

Strange logic in the code. Have I done something I shouldn't have?
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:02, Reply)
I think you're smashing, internet cr3.
Thank you for this step forward towards the joining of Off Topic and /Talk.

and general consensus was that most people preferred it the old way, on OT at least, so it got changed back.
I find it highly amusing that you've changed it again though, even though I prefer the old way.

I was explaining the way that other people wanted the replies to be, I wasn't particularly fussed.
Are you ever right about anything?
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:25, Reply)
Well, thanks for clearing that up.
EDIT: Yeah, sometimes. You'd be surprised.

"To be honest, it took them months to do anything about our suggestions for off topic, so it'll be a while before they do anything again, I think. Not that I'm complaining, I appreciate that they're trying different things, all for our benefit." -See? You bloody invalid, when are you going to stop your ceaseless bullying of me and get a real girlfriend?
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:29, Reply)
I don't find it easier either way tbh, but having them nested upsets my crippling un-diagnosed asbergers.
mostly though, people fear change.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:14, Reply)
preferred the linearity for the Home Sweet Home threads, so one, day-long conversation could be tracked from start to finish
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:14, Reply)
oh sexmonkey o' mine.
I can see this working better now.
as long as it doesn't get all /talk-like
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:15, Reply)
not afraid to spend several paragraphs on something, rather than blurting out the first thing that comes to mind.
I'm not here to use it is an instant chatroom, I'm not hitting f5 all the time, so it's nice to not have to skim a million single line posts.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:22, Reply)
it's a balance though, I want more humourous posts, not just people talking about themselves.

forget that actually, a bird just flew at insanely high speed into the window by my desk. It's still vibrating...
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:34, Reply)
You'll make millions, and might be able to get a bird of your own

Another step forward for you all.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:04, Reply)
so they were removed. I don't really mind them.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:05, Reply)
Now I'm sure people won't mind
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:10, Reply)
I'm bored on a Thursday and have been ever so slightly amused by JMG, but he's not on form today which is a pity.
And yourself? Have you tarnished the pristine anodizing of your new Specialized with mud yet?
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:08, Reply)
I'll consult with my internet girlfriend and will see if we can make it!
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:09, Reply)
But it has done a fair bit of road riding while I get used to it. However - tonight's the night! I'm gonna find me some puddles.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:15, Reply)
We must meet for that ride we've been on about. Epping Forest is your local stamping grounds isn't it?
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:18, Reply)
I do indeed stamp around Epping Forest. Generally, you can recognise me by my calls of "Oh Fuck!" and "I nearly came off then!" or sometimes even "WAAAAAUUUURRRGGHHHH!"
It's all good though.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:20, Reply)
He has been quite funny, particularly with his linux analogies.
However today he's merely being obtuse for kicks, which leaves me feeling very short changed in the value department.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:21, Reply)
Please thanks, I'd appreciate it an awful lot, and I'd even be nice to you and everything
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:13, Reply)
You're right!
Why hasn't anybody clicked anything since July last year?
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:17, Reply)
I only click "I like this" on Offtopic very rarely. I didn't think the clicks counted.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:19, Reply)
but from now on, I'll be clicking my own posts vigorously
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:20, Reply)
As you or one of your alter-egos?
I've set up an alter-ego recently and intend on having some fun with it.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:24, Reply)
It was nice to start from scratch without all those horrible 'friends' expecting things of me and getting in a strop
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:31, Reply)
It wasn't directed at you.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 18:03, Reply)
other than that, just you acting like a cunt...
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 18:12, Reply)
acting like a cunt, not actually being a cunt, like some people...
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 18:15, Reply)
and then oozing juice and occasionally blood everywhere.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 18:21, Reply)
It shows when a post has new replies, and those new replies are at the bottom, easy to find.
With nesting neither is true, which makes browsing OT frustrating rather than fun.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 17:46, Reply)
it worked before, noone complained. If we wanted it like talk, surely we'd be on there?
I'm a frickin simpleton and get confused easily. I hope that it makes sense the new way. I'll give it a go tho. Can't say more than that.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 18:47, Reply)
QOTWOT is not \talk. We're used to reading the end of threads rather than scrolling around looking for new replies.
We don't mean to sound ungrateful, and we appreciate the work you've put into this. I'm sure the new search-thingy will come in handy.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 20:37, Reply)
You don't have to use the nested replies. You don't have to use the nested replies.
It's a fucking miracle that OT is still going considering that every time someone (moddish) makes a change, a whole bunch of people start whining because it isn't like they feel it oughta be.
I don't particularly care either way, it just gets right on my tits that the people that run this site (for free, no less) appear to be damned if they do, and damned if they don't.
I'm not having a go by the way, Spakka, I'm just saying, is all.
(, Thu 7 May 2009, 20:49, Reply)
"You don't have to use the nested replies."
True, but if both styles of replies get mixed up, things could be messy.
I too appreciate the work the mods put into this site - especially as they do it for free. It's just that I found I liked non-nested replies better.
Anyway, instead of complaining further, I've posted a suggestion in the link below that could make both the nested and non-nested people happier.
