I need to disown my sister, so she is no longer my sister. Is there any way I can legally do this?

For the rest of you, what do you reckon would be the most embarassing way (to her) to announce it to the rest of my famly?

I'm thinking taking out a full page advert in the Times...

Just ignore her, don't have anything to do with her. Dont acknowledge her, don't interact with her.

what you mean by "disown"

In your will it is possible to add a codicil which states "for all financial purposes, person XXXX is not considered to be a relative and therefore is not entitled to any share of my estate."

However, it depends whether you mean physically saying she is no longer a relative. Unfortunately, no. That's not possible. You can, of course, file a restraining order, which lets the relative know quite effectively you no longer want contact. You can also have a legal document drawn up stating "I, XXXX wish to make it clear that due to [insert reasons - make sure they are unbiased and real reasons], I no longer consider myself to have any relationship with person XXXX from hereforth unless I rescind this document. I do not wish person XXXX to be involved with decisions involving my private or public life in any way, shape or form, including (but not limited to), financial decisions, decisions regarding my care, my estate, or any other legal proceedings to which she may have cause to be party.

This needs to be drawn up by a solicitor, signed and witnessed.

That thread gives a rough idea
I've been putting up with this for seven years now. This isn't something I just thought up on a whim.She's caused innumerable rifts between my parents with demands for things, and thinks it's funny. I am a constant butt of her put downs. She left my grandmother in tears last time she visited them due to being rude and plain nasty. That she was willing to come on a website she knows I go on a lot and have friends on for the sole purpose of insulting me is the last straw.

If she had a nice side to her, I wouldn't be doing this. I have tried talking to her. But still the verbal abuse to me continues. Hopefully, the act of me starting the proceedings will be enough to make her be reasonable to me.

If not, it'll be nice to not have to deal with her, ever again.

The great thing about wire manacles
They can be adjusted to fit all sizes of wrist. With points, she'll never get them off, and thus you may do whatever you feel is neccessary. I'd put them around her ankles too... she'd be all sparkly and pretty too, a bit like a christmas tree!
