What's the deal?
Sorry for beating about the bush a bit, but:

I completely fail to understand this massive "class" difference with QOTW and Talk Board.
I joined B3TA and fannied around QOTW for a while, then went to Talk Board to explore the site a bit. The convos over there are fun and whatnot and everything was great.

Here is where everything went Royaly tits up.

As usual, being a computer spaz, I encountered a simple computer error with massive difficulty so I seeked the advice of people on Talk Board. A few were gracious and offered solutions, which I used and the problem was destroyed. Going back to the Board to say my thanks to the people who helped, I found myself up to my arse in comments such as "you stupid fuck", "hey dumbass, way to use a computer" and "fuck off you spacker".

How very rude.

Would you kindly help a fellow computer user with a problem? You probably would, as would I.

Then came a comment which disturbed me: "Why don't you fuck off to QOTW, they'll love you there."
Now I'm confused.
They seem to hate QOTWers for some unknown reason, while QOTWers don't talk about it. There needs to be a giant internet handshake and a "sorry for your troubles".

Or a COLOSSAL WAR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

As someone who uses OT and /talk....
I find the (un)target audiances are much better. Over on /talk, there are loads of people who are LOLGRUMPY*, it's a form of attention seeking really. Over here, the audiance seems to be a tad more... ermm, sorry, i'm not good with words, 'mature' is almost right, but not quite.

I find one of the big troubles with people asking for help on /talk, is that we get loads of people who come there, ask a question, and don't thank or reply to anything. I find that can really get on my goat, as my experiance with technology has taken years and years to learn. It's not that I'm asking for any kind of fiscal reward, but a 'cheers mate' would do. This is why when someone who's name is not reckognised posts something along those lines, they're greated with a negative responce.

There is also the fact that, by design, /talk can only have a few top-tier posts at a time, so there is the whole 'threadwaste' issue, which also bugs me. But I'ld rather a newbie ask for help on there, than the consistant attention seeking that doesn't equate to conversation.

Also, although /qotw have quite a few Gems, you have to mine through so much crap (which requires time because of the size of the posts), that a lot of /talk can't be bothered.

it's an interesting point though
while most /talkers are just like us, and love to abuse people and so on, when all's said and done, both boards are fairly similar.

However, there are a few people who really actually seem to hate QOTW (and by association OT) and those who sail in her. Can't think of any names at the moment, because they aren't quite as famous as JMG or Wormulus, who we all know love us dearly.
