My extried very hard to stay dumped from HIS ex in many ways. He made it very clear to me, to all his friends - everyone it seems, apart from her, thought he was single when we got together. I certainly did or, well, we wouldn't have got together. He tried loads of ways of telling her...all it would seem, rather than the obvious and unambiguous 'it's over'. Moved into the spare room
Rarely went home
Told her he needed some time out
Told her he needed a break
Told her he wanted to change his life around

Continued to tell her he cared about her
Told her she could stay in the property HE owned and paid the bills on
Bought all her food
Did all her laundry
Went home every night
Picked up her 'usual' takeaway whenever she wanted it
Did nothing to disturb the usual 'living together' routines of cooking together etc
Did nothing to tell her he considered himself to be, well, single.
It was not all that very long after I found this out that he things went sour with us. And so not long after that, he had a practical lesson in how relationships can end quickly and cleanly.
He stayed dumped.
