This is a question I Quit!

Scaryduck writes, "I celebrated my last day on my paper round by giving everybody next door's paper, and the house at the end 16 copies of the Maidenhead Advertiser. And I kept the delivery bag. That certainly showed 'em."

What have you flounced out of? Did it have the impact you intended? What made you quit in the first place?

This is a QotW answer And I'm quitting my job
I've posted here before about my horrible job, so I won't go into huge details about that. Let's just say that I think being paid a damn good salary from the public purse to sit and do nothing is very very wrong. Don't get me wrong, I'm not (really) a slacker - I'd love to have something to do but I haven't. No-one seemed to know what my job was supposed to be for, and now I've been restuctured and have refused to accept the new job, there is, literally, nothing, nada, not a thing to occupy my 9-5 time.

So, I quit. I worked out, on about the 8th March, that if I quit on the last working day of March, my three month notice period would mean I would finish on the last working day of June. In that time I could stop drinking (yeah, right) to save money, get a lodger, sell all my stuff on ebay. Decision made, I had to bite my tongue and say nothing until the end of the month. I managed it by taking leave and just not being here.

So now, I am working out my notice, along with a few others - a third of my department have left because of the terrible way the restructure was handled (I won't say managed - it wasn't). It's common knowledge that I don't want to be here, that I feel we've all been treated appallingly, and that I think the way public money is being wasted is a crime.

But I've got to be here til the end of June. In body at least. Someone said to me a while back that I'd emotionally left the job months back, and she was right.

So my last three months are becoming a long drawn out flounce. This consists of me essentially bringing 'real life ancrenne' to work instead of 'work ancrenne'. Real life ancrenne walks barefoot everywhere, says what she thinks, does not follow the hierarchical crap that this organisation spouts, climbs trees in her lunch hour. As I'm no longer meeting people, I've had my nose pierced, and the henna is being more liberally applied to my hair. My desk is covered in radical political material, daisies, wild flowers and stones and leaves, and I'm chair dancing to cracking tunes all day. I'm turning into a hippie Stig of the dump, looking most of the time like I'm at a festival, and the rest of the time I'm outside in the botanic gardens.

Having some leave left to take, I decided that better than a few long weekends, was to take the whole lot in one go at the end of my tenure. My last day will be a half day, the morning of Monday 23rd June. At lunchtime on that day I really will flounce, in a pink dress with stars on, off to a place where I can sit in the sun and eat cake while my colleagues have to cope with the sinking ship that is this office.

16 and a half working days to go...

This is a QotW comment You sound exactly like my oldest friend
Roo - she's a theatre nurse so has to conform (ish) for the sake of the patients and their health, but outside of working hours she never wears shoes, collects flowers and stones, constantly listens to music and sings. Her hair is generally hennaed and when not working she wears rings on her fingers and toes.
I love her to pieces. Most sensible and mad person I know.

Good luck to you.

Have a *click* because this post put a smile on my face...especially the pink dress with stars on.

My friend decided at the weekend that she wants to call me Boo rather than my real name, which I like very much, so maybe I am indeed a separated a birth twin of your friend :)

Not with a bang or a whimper but with a song in your heart and flowers in you hair.

Takes me back to the sixties *dreams*

Ok I was only born in 1965 but I was still there.

There are trees behind the Tate Modern, I can see them through the office windows.
They don't look extra climbable, but with two of us we could give it a go one lunchtime...

Go out the back of the station, past Guy's Hospital and along Kipling Street... plenty of trees.

Just watch out for the crack heads.
