When were you last really scared?We'd been watching the Shining. We were staying in an old church building. In hindsight, taking the shortcut home after midnight, in the mist, through the old graveyard was a bad idea.
I'm not sure what started it, but suddenly all the hairs on my neck had gone up and I was crapping myself. It was almost as bad as when, after a few cups of coffee too many and buzzing on caffeine, I got freaked out by my own reflection in the toilets.

Earlier today, actuallyRiding home from work, slowed down in my village to let cars come through the other way. Went to pull away and immediately felt something not quite right with the back wheel. I pull in, get off, and find the back tyre as flat as Kate Moss's chest. Disgruntled, but not too inconvenienced, I push the bike (which was bloody difficult with only one working wheel) home and set about getting it sorted.
The scary part came a few hours later when discussing it with friends - one of whom jokingly said "phew, good thing you weren't on the bypass when it went, eh?". That was when it hit me just how fucking lucky I was - if it had burst 180 seconds earlier while I was doing around a good ton 70 mph, officer, then I'd be naught but a rusty brown smear on the Canterbury to Dover road. That scared me.
