This is a question Unexpected Good Fortune

Travelling through Seattle a good 15 years ago, I remembered an old friend I used to blow up Action Men with. We were bored, nothing to lose , so I looked him up in the phonebook. He was the only one of that name in there. "Come and stay," goes he.

Me and my mates were living in a car at that point so a bed was a novelty. After searching for a while, we rock up to a very posh mansion on Puget Sound with its own Helipad. "Come flying," goes he.

Has your luck held out recently?

This is a QotW answer More fun from the restaurant from hell
(I've talked about this crappy restaurant before.)

So I've finally told my bosses that I don't want to work there anymore, and it's my last day working. All of the other waiters and waitresses are the ones I don't like. And I'm working on Friday during the lunch rush, which means we have tons of office parties coming in to celebrate the end of the week. I'm counting down the minutes until I can leave.

I finish up my last tables, and I get my manager to cash me out. This means going into the computer and clicking on "cash out" - and if you have tables who haven't finished yet, the computer won't cash you out until they've paid. But I don't have any tables still open, so I go into the back and start counting out my money.

All of a sudden, I realize that about an hour before, I had taken the orders of three men on the patio. And I had completely forgotten to even put their orders into the computer. I sneak a look out onto the patio - yeah, they're still there. And looking pissed off. It's certainly only going to be a few minutes before they complain to my manager - it's amazing that they haven't done it already.

It's my last day, I hate the restaurant, and I hate everyone I work with.

So I did the responsible thing. I counted out the rest of my money as fast as humanly possible and got the fuck out of Dodge.

I ran out the back door, and JUST as I got out of sight, I heard my manager enter the back room and call my name.

I've never run that fast in my entire life.

It was unexpected good luck that it was the perfect day to do something that would normally have gotten me fired, and that I realized what I had done early enough to not get in trouble for it. Ever.
