Last year I saw a kid struggling in the deep end of the hotel pool, and he went under, The life guard was too busy chatting up girls by the pool bar. I dived in fully clothed, lifted the kid up, and pushed him to the side. The mother rushed up grabbed him and carried him away, and didn't say a word of thanks.

i nearly drowned as a kid (trying to show off in the deep end, when i could only swim underwater), and I got rescued by someone cos the lifeguard wasn't doing his job.
This actually made me become a lifeguard when I was in my teens, but I never got to save anyone. But I did have to clean some poo once :(
