owing to the fact that I've never heard of it.

I'm sure you could have got it in the posh parts of Nottingham in 1980 but I wasn't exactly brought up on haute cuisine. My mum made cottage pie out of corned beef, that was about as sophisticated as it got until she discovered spaghetti bolognese.
