It comes from a comment that someone made criticising the furore over paedophiles, and the mob hate being whipped up.

The comment was along the lines of "at this rate we'll have people chasing paediatricians out of their offices in Portsmouth" (or wherever).

I'm sure I remember a morning radio article on r4 about a mob of "outraged" mail readers laying siege to a paediatrician's house somewhere on the south coast. Seemed believable at the time...

i also remember private eye having a cartoon about paedophile/paediatrician confusion among the ignorant
