# what'd you ride then?
I got a '87 VFR 750 at the moment (perfect for 300 miles a week to work!)

EDIT: yeah, I'm one of those nutters who carves through the traffic jams on the way to Dartford crossing of a morning! muwhaha!
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:16, archived)
# Good lad!!
Currently doing the same down to the much more hardcore Blackwall Tunnel on my T-Max.

What's a T-Max? It's a VFR without the faff.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:22, archived)
# T-max?
not the V-max??

edit: the 'faff' keeps me on the bike at 135mph!!hahah (saves being blown off the back!)
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:23, archived)
# No. Definately T-Max.

Yes, it's a scooter.

Don't knock it 'til you've tried it. Will crack a ton and shame any sporty at the traffic light GP.

It's the faff that makes them slow. How else do you explain a 40bhp, 200kg scooter kicking their butts?
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:30, archived)
# *ahem*
...*chuckle*.. I wont laugh.. I KNOW there are some fast scoots out there, but there is NO WAY your scoot will beat me to a ton! (That, I'd put money on!) :)
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:34, archived)
# Not to a ton, no.
But I'd get to fifty before you.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:37, archived)
# hehe...
..ok, if you say so..
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:41, archived)
# Seriously...
...I've had all manner of bikes away from the traffic light GP. While you're busy stopping to change gear, I'm off and away. Getting past me means either having to wait until you've changed up or getting me straight away (but that means abusing the rev limiter).

TBH, although folks like us like to talk up speed, I'm just happy to ride. If it's got two wheels and a motor, you've got my undying respect. There's far too much bad shit going on out there to be partisan.

# stopping to change gear?
when you are winding up your auto-gear box... my clutch is on fire and testing me to try and stay onboard!...I change into second gear at about 60 mph... 2nd at about 85..then if the limiter dont kick in, I'm in forth for the tonne, with 2 more to go!...'off the line' racing is about knowing the machine...not 'what the book says'...
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 3:06, archived)
# a ton, over there is like 60 miles per hour here, right?
Our speed limit is 65 mph and nobody drives less than 70-75 mph. Is a ton (100 kph) supposed to be fast there?
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 3:14, archived)
# It's enough...
...to endanger one's licence.

The fastest that you can legally go in the UK is 70mph. Anyone actually doing 100mph on the road is pushing their luck.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 3:17, archived)
# yeah, I've lost my license 4 times in the last 20 years..........
but we hit 100 mph daily out here in the country....and 120 mph on the interstates at night........and we are considered slow to the guys on rice rockets. A guy in Minnesota just got a ticket for going 205 mph.....how much is that in kilometers per hour?
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 3:24, archived)
# he states mph
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 3:20, archived)
# Auto-Box...?!
CVT more like. Keeps the engine in the fat of the powerband until 80+mph.

TBH, scooters are always going to be pretty useless on a track or drag strip. However, they are not to be discounted out on the road. That CVT has to be worth at least an extra 250cc.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 3:15, archived)
# haha..
I normally ride at *about* 90mph PLUS, as does most of the UK commuters...yeah, I KNOW its WAY above the UK limit... but you have to be here to appreciate it... I'm on 2 wheels, MOST of my fellow commuters are in BMWs etc..it might seem fast to you, but I stay in 4th (of 6) to cruise the ton! (100mph)..I normally skittle along at just below 160kph (100mph?..god knows, I STILL havent worked out the clocks, even after 6 months!)
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 3:35, archived)
# you've intreged me..
..I gotta find a local T-Max rider willing to have a burn.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:55, archived)
# my bikes...
I have a 1981 Harley Electroglide...1800cc's bored and stroked, ported and polished, 5 speed and all the handling goodies, thats the one in the pic. As you can see I also equiped it with a gasoline injected flamethrower system too. I can show you the un-paintshop pro-ed pic if you like. I also have a 1941 Knucklehead trike with big ass tires and a long front end. I also have a 1995 Super Vee which I dont have a pic of yet. I ride the piss out of my bikes.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:35, archived)
# now THAT..
..is what I am talking about!! *hurumph!*
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:37, archived)
# is that a reliant diff??
..on what looks like chevy tyres!! :S
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:39, archived)
# not Reliant....
its an old Harley Servicar rearend.....chain drive diff.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:51, archived)
# i bet
it doesn't go/all makebelieve/potatoed
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:55, archived)
# the trike....
the trike has its body off in the pic and the brakes aren't connected.....they are connected now, and its tagged and running. Still has a few small problems tho. You'd have problems too if your were highly modified and 53 years old.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 3:36, archived)
# looks 'light'..
s'why I thought it was reliant..I stand corrected =)
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:53, archived)
# those tires are...
Mickey Thompson Sportsman 18.5"x33"x15" tires... the largest street legal tires that you can run on US roads.

# Harley? Handling?
*Sniggers*
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:38, archived)
# hey, you cant dis 'handling'..
..when you just quoted 'off the line specs'...
this beast would fry your scoot!
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:40, archived)
# youre right.....
stock ones don't handle that great, but put some performance springs and shocks on it and some steering dampners and give it some ground clearance and I can hand with real sportbikes. I don't cry about my bike won't handle, I take matters into my own hands and MAKE it work. Its what you call American Ingenuity.
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:47, archived)
# Fairy Nuff
I reckon that, if you've got the ground clearance and sticky enough tyres, you're laughing.

Yamaha reckon that my 500cc scooter has the same lean angle as an R1, and I can personally vouch for the "hoops". There ain't no-one who can beat me when the Force is with me.

# nice flames,
but hardly a graceful little thing
(, Thu 11 Nov 2004, 2:41, archived)
# not real pretty but......
its fast and loud and fun and I'm not afraid to ride it cross country...... not bad for a 23 year old bike.
