is there anyone who views the relationship between santa and children and doesn't (at least for a few seconds) think of paedophilia? you'd have to be a pollyanna of the highest order not to consider it.

Well, I've certainly heard plenty of stories about real-life dodgy Santas
bearing in mind that these are typically older men who volunteer to fondle young children all evening..

well...
...to take a simple view of it (as i do), fictional characters have all the flaws and potential of the standard dreary humans we see before us every day. therefore the 'real' santa is as likely to want to play grab-ass with kids as is any department-store santa.
from what i recall as a kid, all the mall santas were otherwise inoffensive drunks who knew they could earn some coin during the holidays by wearing earplugs and frightening brats. still, i'll bet i sat on more than one diddler as a child.
