^these
but it's worth pointing out the file size thing, i remember some of my earlier attempts were a few k too big, it was flagged up at the time, and i made more of an effort to get things smaller.
at the time optimisation was a complete mystery to me.
oh, and welcome new person.

its pretty seamy, but that comes with practise and a better graphics editor.
Good work, don't think anyone has done it yet either.

very
one of these days programmers will stop giving programs stupid "funny" recursive names ("let's call it the gimp snort snort giggle"; losers) and then people might even begin using linux.
be prepared for hours of frustration with the gimp's terrible design, i warn you... better than paint though.

I think they've generally stopped doing that now
because they want to be taken more seriously.
However, there are still a couple of legacy acronyms around.
Try using Gimpshop on windows; its a version where the layout has been improved.

The GIMP
is very good. A lot of work has gone into the functionality. But the layout of menus is a bit annoying.
The next release should be smashing; it fixes the layout and has some funky new features.
There's something called Krita (http://www.koffice.org/krita/) for KDE. I've never used it though, so I can't say if it's any good.

to clarify my dislike of the gimp
it seems that it can do anything i want, but finding out how to make it actually *do* that is akin to beating my testicles with a sledgehammer. if they can deal with the menus, toolbars and layouts then i'd be perfectly happy with it, i look forward to the nexxt release...
and i'll check out krita, cheers

i find
the wikpedia page quite entertaining. if nothing else people occasionally add on bits about the most common images posted. also b3takit.co.uk has most of the most common images. i suspect every possible joke has been wrung out of all of them but that's never stopped anyone else...
edit: one of these days i'll read the damn faq

Gazz is the b3ta internal messaging system. It can be found at the top of the board next to where it says FAQ.
Just click on the "you have X unread messages"
RIS means "i don't get it". It came from a morrisons sign where RIS was blacked out to spell "morons"
and a few others

there's a link in your, and every ones, profile, send me a message or some such. as for forum words, we tend not to use too many you'll soon find out what they are, and the odds are you won't understand them. steer well clear of text speak and all that lol and rofl bollocks as well.

- Your image is too big (needs to be 50kb or less)
- It's seamy as hell (try using photoshop)
- I suspect you're taking the piss.
