None of this over simplified Pantone stuff. This was full on CIELAB colour space assessment.

The company I worked in the QC lab for
mostly made leather for Rolls Royce, Aston Martin, Ferrari, Prince Charles's personal carriage, the House of Lords. That sort of thing. If someone is spending £100,000 on a car, they want to know that they can replace a seat panel if they tear it. We had to get the colour to match every other batch that had ever been made and so that it looked the same under daylight, sodium street lamps, flourescent tubes in their garage etc.
