This is a normal post .pdf files are safe
You can't run an executable file so they are harmless. Same with Word and Excel documents.

All three file formats have the ability to embeded scripted programming languages coupled with significant security flaws in the most commonly used applications to open them...MS Office and Adobe Acrobat have been major malware vectors for years..!

This is a normal post The software itself has been shown many times to have had weaknesses exploited
Which malware can of course use to get access to the operating system. But the files themselves cannot be used for these purposes as they lack the trigger mechanism to run these malicious files. So opening a pdf, xls or doc (or any of the later extensions for that matter) won't cause an explosion of malware on your system

This is a normal post Of course you can trust that a file with the extension .pdf is actually a PDF file
Nobody has ever tricked Windows into opening the wrong program that way.

This is a normal post The most I can find is that there is proof of concept and trojans can be dropped in
I stick by my point though: it won't cause an explosion of malware.
