Another proportionate response to someone being a dick on social media
Wonder if the police are as sick of these complaints as everyone else.

If they arrested everyone who was a dick on the internet
there would be nobody left.

As I whined on a facebook page earlier.....
FFS it's not a religious symbol (not that they should be treated special anyway), if he bought it he's entitled to do what he wants with it. Posting a picture of it on fire means nothing, it is no different to posting a picture of a paper cup alight unless it came posted with threats of violence to a remembrance parade or similar. They are either arresting someone based on another person's interpretation of an image (which basically puts every work of art at risk of criminal prosecution) or arresting him based on his own dimwitted view of remembrance day (which means certain days now carry an enforceable level of serious opinion that we must all hold).

he is dick for posting it online but apart from that he is no differant to many many others
true the story is lacking in detail and more may/will emerge on this but at the moment he is just a dick

It's the former.
The rise of social networks means people are now far more exposed to images and words outside their comfort zone, and some (wankers) deal with it by calling the police, who are duty-bound to investigate.
The law needs to be modernised.

The police needs to stop ever appeasing the mob.
Every time they do, it gives idiots the belief that is how they should handle offence.
I really do think it would be quite an interesting experiment to start a campaign to get, say, Richard Littlejohn arrested based on the fact our law works by precedent. He is a bigger troll than many who have been charged.

Absolutely.
The fact that it represents fallen Commonwealth soldiers of all wars and not just the two world wars also means that it's not really a clear cut symbol for many people.
He may have been trying to make a valid point, albeit in a dumb way.

The Only Way is Essex...
...causes me distress and anxiety. Therefore the producers and broadcasters should be arrested under the malicious telecommunications act 1988.
Alternatively, I could just be an adult and put up with its existence. I do not have a right to not be offended.
