At the time I was on a long-term work placement in a reasonably large Midwest US city
Five of us were out there, mostly for three month stints. Sixty hour weeks, but we played as hard as we worked. We'd gone out on the lash on the Saturday evening as usual, and ended up stumbling to the same old shitty club we always ended up at. The shaved ape on the door told us that entry was double the normal rate because "some European band is on" - we reasoned that it might be someone we'd heard of and that a live band would be better than the usual crap they played.
Normally at this point I'd say something along the lines of "How wrong we were".
Fact is though, once we'd found out who was on from the bar staff, we figured "what the hell" and had a right laugh. The locals didn't know what to make of either the Vengaboys on stage, or the five drunken Brits in front of them.
