I said I was wrong about pre 1980 and out of all those movies you mentioned all the good ones were pre 1980. Just because you can pick out 1 or 2 good movies of the past 30 years doesn't mean that all those shite selections should be ignored. The oscars basically mean fuck all and are of no greater indicator of quality than popularity.
And even when they managed to pick a good movie there's often a much better one that should have been picked. Such as with Chinatown and the Godfather 2 (though there are probably much better examples of this).
To be clear, when I said "always" I didn't mean literally ALWAYS as you seem to have imagined, I simply meant the vast majority of the time.

To be honest I find that really hard to do.
Having only english speaking movies is needlessly restrictive. And it's difficult to remember what actually came out in 1991 or 1993 or whatever.

Fuck what everyone else thinks (even if they agree with me), it's a belter of a story, a great soundtrack and some cracking scenes throughout. Had its fair share of cheese, but it was still better than Braveheart by about a zillion fucking miles.
