Alan Turing
This man did a lot to help us in our darkest hour.

When it was found out he was gay the conspiracy to destroy his life started.

Here is a post from Legless regarding Mr Turing. www.b3ta.com/questions/fans/post406882

E petition to pardon him. (Pardon? He should have been knighted.) https://submissions.epetitions.direct.gov.uk/petitions/23526

Erm...
Not really a conspiracy though? Just good old fashioned homophobia.

Depends on the collusion of the higher echelons to rid someone of his skills and rank.

I reckon
there are few if any people who would actually deny Alan Turings contribution to Bletchley Park, or his groundwork on computing. The problem is, few people know about it.

There's no terrible injustice waiting to be righted with regard to his achievements. If you ask the general public who were Bletchleys heroes, or who conceived the modern computer, 95% of them will say 'No Idea'.

I think personally he was very badly treated, but he wasn't treated any differently to anyone else in the same situation at that time.

What is lacking is recognition. He really should have been knighted.

Sad story though.

He should be on the £20 note
A few bronze statues would be pretty good too.

Less a conspiracy theory,
and more an actual, documented event.

I disagree
There are still people who mention various conspiracy theories to do with Alan's death such as the bottom of this blog. https://witnessthis.wordpress.com/tag/alan-turing/

Oh Janet
I finally understand why you're so bitter and twisted. A kind B3tan sent me a link to a photo of you.

Oh Janet. It wasn't your fault that you fell out of the ugly tree - but did you have to hit every.fucking.branch on the way down?

I've put your picture on the garden gate. Keeps burglars away.

Cheers

Now - you can change your attitude over time.
But unless you're rich and want to look constantly startled you can't really change your looks can you?

From what I've read about it (strokes chin thoughtfully)
there was some doubt as to whether his death was intended. Certainly he was not ashamed of his homosexuality, and took his punishment for it with bemused fortitude.

I would certainly dispute the statement that there was a "conspiracy to destroy his life" - people working with him were aware of his homosexuality, and his conviction came after an incident when a boyfriend of his stole from him, and Turing reported this to the police, and made the mistake of telling the police the nature of his relationship with the thief.

Yes, of course his conviction should not have happened, but he died a year afterwards, at a time when he was still working actively. The idea of him being outed by a baying mob and then topping himself as a direct reaction to this is somewhat misleading.

Fair enough.

Hmm...
Turing died of cyanide posoining a year later, an inquest decided that this was suicide. This was after his security clearance was revoked and he was given "hormone treatment" - which incidentally led him to grow breasts - as positive a morale boost as a man in his position could have surely. If this didn't lead to his suicide then I'm a purple fucking baboon.

Well I'm not sure this is a very good example to be setting to our children!

He already was knighted
He was given an OBE in 1945. I don't think he lost it due to his conviction.
(, Wed 7 Dec 2011, 17:55, closed)
Just an observation...
OBE and Knighthood are very different things - a Knighthood is (and then would have been more so) far more recognition than an OBE.

I believe
that the British government apologised for his treatment a few years ago, saying that he deserved better.
