This is a question Darwin Awards

Bluffboy says: My mate cheated death and burned his eyebrows off looking down the barrel of a potato gun. Tell us about your brushes with the Grim Reaper through stupidity.

Actually, after just replying to a post, here's a gonna happen soon Darwin award for you.
Mum died a year ago on Saturday/Sunday (time zone between US and UK) of lung cancer. From smoking.

I'm still on 20 a day. Sometimes more.

I lose.

Stop right now
Its stupid to let a stick of leaves rule your life. I gave up 5 years ago without any help, or replacement drugs, or books. Its easy once you get your mindset around it.

my other half just went cold turkey - sheer bloody mindedness - good luck!

If I can do it
anyone can...

I smoked for 17 years and never tried to give up before. My loved ones have pestered me to do it but I knew I still loved smoking too much to give it up.
At New Year I was on my to smoke my first smoke of the day when my mum said to me "why don't you just throw that in the bin instead?" and the look on her face was enough to make me do it. After that I just couldn't bring myself to light one up.

So it's been nearly 7 weeks now. It's been bloody hard, and I have resorted to the occasional lozenge. I think if I'd planned to give up I never would have, but because it was a spontaneous decision I had no time to get stressed about it beforehand. I didn't mourn my last cigarette because I didn't know it would be my last.

So do it, now. Don't "give up", just don't smoke your next cigarette. And when you get the urge again, fight it. It'll pass. And again and again... just keep deciding not to smoke your next cigarette, and the urges will get fewer and further between.

My fella's mum stopped smoking when she had an epiphany - looking at the cigarette in her hand she thought "hang on... doing this makes me want to do this..." it's a no brainer!

My mum's
"fighting" throat cancer right now.

She doesn't smoke. Never has, as far as I know.

God's a bastard.

The Easyway To Give Up Smoking by Allen Carr...
Not the big toothed gay comedian, some other fella.

Absolutely brilliant book- I can't recommend it highly enough- you don't even require will power with his method! Give it a shot- what have you got to lose?
