This is a question Irrational Hatred

People who say "less" when they mean "fewer" ought to be turned into soup, the soup fed to baboons and the baboons fired into an active volcano. What has you grinding your teeth with rage, and why?

Jo Wiley
Eight hundred years old, marginally less withered than Mumm-Ra's mother in law, and still on Radio 1, doing her very best to be 'down wiv da kids'. I especailly hated the 'rocks and sucks' feature - in which, very unimaginative people would phone in two completely unrelated items, one of which they liked, the other, they disliked. And this banale, worthless crap would then be broadcast to the nation.

I hate her for that. I hate her for being the catalyst - along with some creepy Irish fellow who was continually making distasteful single-entendres towards his ugly Scottish co-host, including one memorable occasion in which he intimated he'd like to sniff her contraceptive cap - of my abandoning Radio 1 in favour of Radio 2, thus cementing my decline into middle age. And I hate her even more for finally being booted from Radio 1, and subsequently sloping off to infect Radio 2 with her bland, queasily sycophantic shit.

What's the frequency for Radio 4?

Yeah I noticed last time I went back to the UK (in 2009), Radio 1 was just noise, and Radio 2 was the sort of stuff I used to listen to a few years earlier. Which clearly means i'm part way to becoming my father and listening to Radio 4...

Jo Wiley did have a good face for radio though.

Oh god yes!
It's the way she breathes that gets me. Every second word she takes a big noisy breath and it does my head in. That, and she can't interview for shite.

Round here it's 92.5.

Radio 2 is the new Radio 1
Now that Radcliffe & Maconie are on 6 music, Radio 2 has become as un-listenable as Radio 1.

6 music at home on the DAB, and 5 live/radio 4 in the car for me now. Well and truly middle aged (I'm 26)

I took up R3 and 4 when I was 20 and have never looked back.
If you listen to pop radio you get DJs drivelling tripe. Why would you expect anything else? Beats me.

she's not on Radio 1 any more
she's on Radio 2

frequency?
Relive your wasted youth and listen to Absolute 80s. This may only apply if you're between 30 and 50

And if you think Radio 1 is bad, try local radio.

Try down here
Most of the radio stations in Australia seem to be either stuck in the 80s with bogan music, play that noise that the kids these days call music or are low budget versions of Radio 4 (ABC Radio National is R4 without the comedy, dramas or decent music free documentaries and it's only AM, not FM).

I've now listen to Radio 4 podcasts all the time. If it weren't for the 8 hour time difference I'd just listen to the internet stream via my phone.

I've almost given up on UK radio
I tend to stream Jack FM (LA) when at work, but tolerate R4 in the car
(, Wed 6 Apr 2011, 10:33, closed)
Please stop talking about Radio 4

A click
just for invoking Mumm-ra

I have been listening to R4 for 11 years now
As soon as I got a 'proper' job that came with a company car I realised that Radio 1 sucks massive balls, I would re-tune for Mark and Lard in the afternoon but would get pissed off with the shite that they'd begrudgingly play (anyone remember them telling you exactly how long a song is so you could go to the toilet or make a cuppa or anything?). I listened to a colleague who sold R4 to me as I'd end up learning about the world and some fairly weird shit whilst driving up and down the country. I've never looked back, although I do listen to Richard Bacon on 5Live now as he comes on at the same time as The Archers (when you find yourself getting into The Archers, that's when you're old).

Oh and Jo Wiley: who the fuck thinks that it's interesting radio for her to say a topical word (like Gaga) and then listen to some idiot trying to spell it correctly?

I'm 33.
(, Wed 6 Apr 2011, 14:28, closed)
198 kHz
Well, if you're going Radio 4, you may as well go long wave too. Just remember to switch off before The Archers comes on, else you'll have that fucking theme stuck in your head all day.
