They do say that all stories fall into one of about five archetypes.Up till Star Wars, the only sci fi available was hokey 60s camp like Star Trek, Lost in Space, Blake's 7 etc. This was the first time sci fi went 'literature' in its scope. Certainly the first time it did it in a blcokbuster way.
