It's been interesting reading
what other people have done with their lives, degree or not.

FWIW

Film and media studies with video production BA Hons. Where has it got me?

Two years at the BBC in the news editing department, then two years at Blockbuster video head office, wine buyer for M&S and slacker at Lush cosmetics. Now a trainee veterinary nurse earning roughly about the same as I did before I started my degree but with huge career prospects and I look forward to going into work each day.

My degree is in Psychology
I'm now what you all call a Bailiff instead.
*shrug*

Edit: I do love my job though.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 22:15, Reply)
Mine was Computer Science
I ended up getting the job I dreamed of, but only after persistently applying for jobs, learning new things and learning from my mistakes.

I'll remain enigmatic about it, but I've already Gazzed a few people about it.

BA (Hons) Theatre (Acting)
(as well as drama school):

1) Helpdesk Monkey
2) Investment Rep
3) Recruitment Consultant
4) Online Marketing Manager

As you can see, it's all in the right direction! :)

EDIT: Evenin' Becky... It's been a while, you ok?

'night K2k6
Sweet dreams.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 22:33, Reply)
I've pretty much squandered the last few years...
Should have been at uni ages ago, but instead, bummed around in college for 5 years before turning up and nearly buggering first year up too.

Was going to post an epic thread in this weeks QOTW, but didn't. Maybe an avoidance thing...

Though I am looking forward to finally pulling my finger out of my arse, and showing people what I can really do!

Night K2k6
So DiT, when am I going to the Globe to see you perform for me?

Ning by the way, Was very pissed off earlier, but have had a good long chat with someone and feel much better now :)
For anyone else that could sound a bit wrong
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 22:35, Reply)
The thing about Computer Science
is that it teaches you to be a Computer Scientist, and not a programmer. If you want a programming job, you have to take a course suited to the field of programming you're interested in. Either that or take a CS degree and then make the effort to fill in the gaps yourself.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 22:36, Reply)
At the Globe, eh?
*one can but dream*

Maybe when I'm old enough for Henry V. I'd still love to do Hamlet again though...

EDIT: Hehehe... Doesn't sound wrong, would just be a very small audience! Unless it was a nude play, in which case it may be wrong. But I would have a no nudity clause.

DOUBLE EDIT: Actually, I wouldn't. Have already been nude on stage, can't get morals now!
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 22:36, Reply)
Am I the only one of b3ta who didn't go to uni? :(
I didn't even finish school!

EDIT: DiT what were you doing naked on stage? Apart from well, being naked.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 22:39, Reply)
Oh, you know, shaking my wang around... ;)
Seriously... One was for a scene of a *ahem* sexual nature, and the other was right at the very beginning of "The Graduate".

I played Ben Braddock, and the play began with me getting out of bed. For some reason, the director was insistent that Ben Braddock slept naked.

However, I was younger, thinner and more toned. Maybe he was just perving on me...
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 22:46, Reply)
I guess it's a good way
to get away with being a perv.
Remember dahhling, it is art.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 22:49, Reply)
Very little I wouldn't do for it though.
Covered myself in dog food once. Paint another time (that made me ill). Buried alive one time.

Christ. Maybe I'm better out of it!

Right. Might have to travel to the land of nod. Night night all!

Oh christ, you've just reminded me
That I've seen Jerry Hall upclose and nekkid when I saw her in the Graduate. I KNEW front row seats were a bad idea. Put me right off me popcorn that did.

*is off to find more food goodness as I'm still hungry*

Hugs everyone
is full of bagels and cream cheese, so I might just puke, but hugs anyway :)

I reckon it's because some schools have now broken up for the holidays/exams already.

I gazzed one last night to ask him to stop txt spkng as it was fucking me off. He hasn't replied, but I haven't seen him on QOTW today either.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:22, Reply)
I am fine, thankses you
Even being back at work hasn't annoyed me to much.

I thought we were in here, but there was a long quiet part at one point.

How is everyone else? No-one still being at work I presumes?
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:23, Reply)
I keep trying to herd people back in here
but they keep jumping back to the other thread.

@ancrenne: I wasn't dogging - I ... erm ... I got stuck in the cupboard.

Evening one and all *hands out homemade brownies*
My inner feminist hates me because I spent most of today cleaning Mr Maladicta's room, admittedly because he was at work for 10 hours, I was waiting in for the man from Argos to come and take the broken bike away, and frankly I was just bored.

He's been seriously stressed with his new job and is always knackered in the evenings so I thought I'd do him a favour and tidy and clean, so I did all that and even had a glass of orange juice chilling when he came home from work. I thought it would be a nice surprise and show him I'm going to be fun to live with :)
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:28, Reply)
Ah, that makes quite a lot of sense
My brain was working quite well today when I was at work. We were playing the fun game of "not writing up what table the drink is going to" just to see if people could manage.

I managed. The boss is going to try tomorrow. I feel she may fail.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:30, Reply)
Maladicta,
I wouldn't say that makes you any less feminist, it just makes you a thoughtful person to be with.
*smiles*
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:30, Reply)
@ Kaol
I thought I was being nice and thoughtful, too, but he was too knackered to appreciate it much and said I don't need to impress him. I'm just trying to make sure he feels wanted and not stifled which is sometimes a very thin line...
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:34, Reply)
Aww Maladicta
If someone did that for me I'd be so chuffed. Especially the orange juice bit
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:38, Reply)
I too jump on the thoughtfull-ness bandwagon.
You only lose your feministninity if he doesn't do the same for you when he gets the chance.
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:40, Reply)
My answers
Would you rather go into space, or have a powerful robotic arm?
Good question. I like this planet, and I like my body just the way it is. But I suppose I'd go into space so I can see the Earthrise from the moon.

Dogs or cats?
Cats

If you could save one thing from your burning home what would it be?
My mind, coz it can do stuff.

Why can't you buy pig milk in the shops?
But you can - it's just labled "Cow Milk".

You have the access code to a satallite defence system. The satallite has a laser with the power and accuracy to incinerate any one person on earth. But only enough juice for one shot. Who do you target, and why?
The QOTW trolls.

I got me a BMus in... *gasp* ...Music
BAAAAAAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAhahahahahahahahahha

*wipes away tear*

Actually, it's got me a fairly decent job where i get paid to b3ta every day, but there's less than zero prospects or future in it... I mean... RINGTONES FFS!
(, Wed 2 Jul 2008, 23:56, Reply)
It's gone quiet here
so I shall nod off.

'night folks.

Right kids
I'm knackered, so I'm off to bed.

Night
I'm not looking forward to two days away from b3ta.
Also, I may not be able to make the bash, stuff has happened that may or may not prevent me from attending.

Physics
So it would seem that 10 years of voluntary education paid off.

MSci in Theoretical Physics.
Ph.D in High-Energy Particle Physics

Job at CERN/EPFL in Switzerland doing things I'm interested in and having a sense that I'm making history in some small way. :)

Lovely summers and snowboarding every weekend in the winter makes me very happy.

Just need to meet a nice lady now. :/
