Are QOTW and QOTWOT separate entities?
Another point that CHCB raised in the FAQ thread was whether or not QOTW and QOTWOT were separate entities. Personally, I disagree. What do you think?

How QOTW and QOTWOT are related
Back when there was just QOTW, the regulars often found eachother's stories so interesting that they felt the need to discuss them. As the stories became more and more interesting, a bond was created between the regulars and they often liked to chat together. Over time, the chat deviated more and more from the current weekly question. This chat was filling the QOTW with many offtopic posts. At first, a reply mechanism was created to keep the top-level answers on-topic. But such was the momentum of the QOTWers that even this wasn't enough to keep off-topic chat off QOTW, so a separate QOTW-forum (QOTWOT) was created. This was soon populated by many of the QOTW regulars, so much of the atmosphere was carried over. Many of the QOTWOT regulars also post on QOTW, so the two forums have plenty in common IMO.

hmm, that needs lots of rules.

Until someone forms a facebook group on the need to have rules for qotw I refuse to acknowledge them.

I find that my brain
does a perfectly good job of not reading shit posts and stuff, so there doesn't really seem to be a need for rules.

we all know what we don't like to happen on these pages, so we can either ignore it, or argue with whoever has done it. I'm in favour of either option.

It's not rules I'm in favour of, it's guidelines.
Both QOTW and QOTWOT can often be dis-orienting to the uninitiated. The seemingly random switch between plucking up the courage and sharing eachother's darkest and most intimate secrets and having a group-hug to telling tasteless and politically incorrect jokes can be confusing. But bear on weary traveller, and all will be revealed.
