My family ran a guest house
and one day my brother mistook the cocoa for the gravy powder. Politely no-one commented, or maybe Oxo-and-chocolate sauce works..
Dad would write the menus in calligraphy, patiently, each day. Took some time, but a nice touch. Don't disturb his concentration as the last line once read "Tea or Custard" (not Coffee..)
Mainly catering for young families we would be plagued with the kids coming in to see what was on the menu that night. The expression on their little faces when we simply put
"Bread and water"

A film where no character is exaggerated or supernatural, no super heroes, no Die Hards, no guns.
There is no scene in the film that a viewer would not expect to have happen to themselves.
No-one does anything in their day that they would not do on every other day of their life.
Characters are seen larger than life because we see themselves from their own POV, what is important to them. But still no car chase, gun waving, all other Hollywood tactics to take us awy from our popcorn.
What you get is a spellbinding tale where real people are driven by their strongest desires and fears, however irrational, this is what makes the people we meet daily tick.,
my gf bought me a copy, I was going to the cinema to see it that often at the time..

You will know:
"ITS A MEAN OLD SCENE"
for years, it was there (google if you don't believe me) on a stone wall that was shortened in height. Someone reiterated on the shorter wall in Maggie's reign
"ITS STILL A MEAN OLD SCENE THATH OUT"
Lost some impact with that spelling...
And just up the road
"Anarchism is what socialism was"
which I still often wonder about.

Only 2 stories 'worth' relating
Housemate in a share of 6 or so - we were mostly 'between jobs' apart from one Territorial Army type... actually cooked his food in his square army canteens in our kitchen, and I could swear he used a set-square and protractor to put stuff in his cupboard... Short bloke, bit angry ,from NI, we didn't interfere...
And the bath I wrote 'Clean me' in hoping someone would notice..
