» The Emergency Services

I took my daughter to A&E
... because she told me that she had a green bb pellet in her ear.

We signed in at the local hospital and were told that the nurse who specialised in objects in the ear had just come on duty, so we would not have a long wait.

The nurse easily removed the bb pellet followed by a length of cotton, half a pink bead, 2 sequins, an inch of metal chain, a blue bead and a ball bearing. The nurse was going to mount these objects, each in its own container, on her wall of along with previous contributions. She was rather pleased to meet my daughter, then aged 8, as it almost doubled her display.

» Job Interview Disasters

I did not get it
The only job that I had had since stopping work to raise my children was on the sex chat-lines. I stopped doing it because I ended up worse off than on benefits, so started applying for jobs that fit in with school hours. There is a lot of competition for them and I was not getting to the interview stage and then inspiration struck: the next form I filled in, instead of meaningless waffle about the job that I had done, I filled it out as "Sex Chat Line Operative" and got an interview.

I was ushered into the room where a stony faced woman sat in the corner and the HR Rep sat in front of me, eyes gleaming and almost drooling said, "Tell me about the chat-lines!" I had no idea what that had to do with selling books for children to schools, waffled on about client confidentiality and could not wait to get out of there.

» Utterly Drunk

My brother
My brother decided to cut back on his drinking. New town, new start etc. That was on the Monday.

Friday, his landlady used her pass key to get in to his flat and he was found unconscious and fitting on the floor. The pressure sores indicated that he had been there a minimum of three days.

Five weeks later, he is only just out of hospital and is still denying that he has a drink problem.
