This is a question Cheap Tat

OneEyedMonster remindes us about the crap you can buy in pound shops: "Batteries that lasted about an hour and then died. A screwdriver with a loose handle so I couldn't turn the damn screw, and a tape measure which wasn't at all accurate."

Similarly, my neighbour bought a lawnmower from Argos that was so cheap the wheels didn't go round, it sort of skidded over the grass whilst gently back-combing it.

What's the cheapest, most useless crap you've bought?

An Acer Laptop.
Lasted for 8 months and 4 warranty trips before the hard drive failed and I sent the useless shite to the company who sold it to me. You get what you pay for, kids.

Sorry for length, but I usually lurk and I'm a little nervous so it shrunk a little. I swear it's usually bigger!

its not a particularly amusing tale
but i sympathise (sp?)
therefore im gonna click

i know 3 people including myself with an acer, none are any good
one overheats while browsing
one had a total faliure of the power unit and had to be replaced
and the other (mine) has had to have the screen and fan replaced, and now it overheats and the battery is fucked

my acer is good
On the flip-side my Acer is nearing 4 years old and has never once let me down. It gets a hell of a lot of use and abuse too - the scroll button is worn smooth with use.
Its still relatively modern spec-wise, and to prolong its usefullness I have just ordered bigger memory sticks for it, and when funds allow i will fit a bigger hard drive too.

Actually, i tell a lie....the dvd writer stopped reading discs last year, but that was an easy swap.

My Dad had an Acer from work.
It was slow as hell, didnt run anything properly and then he (purposely) tried to brake the computer, but only broke the right hand side of the keyboard by pouring coffee over it.

He still gave it back to work and claimed it on the warrentee.

They gave him a Sony Viao as a replacement :)

I had an Acer
it overheated every 30 mins or so. The replacement Acer I was given whilst it was being repaired did the same.

Sold it on ebay, bought a MacBook which hasn't overheated in 12 months despite never being switched off. Hurrah.
