Cure for Paranoia
Here's some advice I got from a long-gone manager who used his "made in Yorkshire" bullshit shield to great effect -
"Never consider someone's actions as malicious if incompetence can explain it just as easily."
Works on governments as well as individuals.

It's bollocks.
The ignorant don't bother to try and make law or set up companies or any other things which display their malicious intent.

That's a paraphrase of Hanlon's Razor
"Never attribute to malice that which is adequately explained by incompetence"

e.g. the 9-11 cover-up didn't disguise that the gubmint did it, but that the gubmint fucked up in preventing it
