I read you use GIMP
anything special you use to do these drawings? besides (probably) a pressure sensitive tablet (edit: and the finger/smudge tool).

Can't get my head around the pressure-sensitive tablet thing
so I've got into the habit of picking a colour, sketching in the outlines with the brush, then smudging the hell out of it.

The breakthrough for me was finding the opacity slider. I like it cos it means you can go over the same bit several times with a low opacity and build up the detail. Probably an inefficient way of doing it, but never mind.
