I reached the conclusion:
that teaspoons are actually formed from leftover food residue in the water.
Supporting my theory is the fact that I never recall once buying teaspoons (yet we seem to have more of them than we do knives, forks, and soup spoons put together) - they are accumulated one at a time, over a course of years. Also, there seems to be a correlation between finding them and the water being particularly soiled*.
* and as all bad scientists know, correlation implies causation.
