Well, the telly presenters were acting as if Jesus was levitating among us.But it was a serious case of Emperor's New Clothes. The few good 'uns he deigned to play (eg Livin' For The City, Higher Ground, Uptight and, admittedly, a few more, all of which were an insult to the original recordings) were outweighed by tedious, anonymous drivel full of solos and schmaltz.
If he'd wheeled out Phil Collins and Macca and done a medley of 'Part-Time Lover' and 'Ebony & Ivory', it would've actually increased the average quality of the set.
Oh, and England were fucking gash as well.
Towards the end, his individual namechecking of the 30-odd-piece band that were contributing to this sonic sludge didn't help.
Nor did the ghastly keytar solo at the very beginning.
