this is just for troublesome bottles and jars or for young children.

In essence, you grip the lid and turn the bottle/jar

best way is to grip the lid is to turn you hand upside down and clasp with the fleshy part between your thumb and index finger. then use the other hand to turn the jar/bottle - EDIT: both done with locked wristz so you use your entire arm as a lever

My mother used to pierce the lids of beetroot and onions first then sellotape it over. Great for releasing the pressure first, but was still messy afterwards
