I really do love
marzipan and am baffled by those who claim to dislike it.

Proper crumbly fruit cake (without marzipan or icing)
is like Ambrosia...

I'll confess
that I always enjoyed the Texas fruitcake my Uncle used to send, and that I do love marzipan and dark chocolate, but the twain have never met...in my experience.

Fact!
Do you not have simnel cake?
Traditional Easter cake - a rich fruit cake, with marzipan covering, decorated with marzipan balls (which represent the disciples, I think).
I didn't make one this year, admittedly, but it is very nice so long as you make your own almond paste, rather than relying on shop-bought marzipan.
If you're ever in England around Easter, I'll make one and give you a slice (that's an easy promise to make).

or Stollen
which is a traditional Christmas cake - fruity with marzipan paste in the middle

Thats soooo true...
Every year my mother in law bakes us a christmas cake and every year precisely one slice is cut from it and then it sits in a tin until late summer when we throw it away.
There is no such thing as a nice fruit cake! Fact!
