# because science is cool.
by cleaning off the grime, dipping them in a boiling solution of sodium hydroxide with small bits of zinc in it, leaving them for a few minutes, then taking them out. they have a lovely silver colour now, but it easily rubs off. running them under the tap, then evenly heating them for about a minute and they have a nice golden shine that sticks.

and then i also kept on heating one, and held it in a hot flame for a couple of minutes, and you could see liquid running across the surface, and it was glowing red in the end, and then we bent it into a sans-serif u-shape, and when it cooled down, the queen's head was much much less prominent, and it had gone back to the original colour.

I wish science was still like that...

# we only did it cos half the class wasn't there.
science isn't much like that most of the time. i should have done english lit instead of chemistry.

# hmm
too bad sounded cool.

can you switch?

# well, i could, but not really
since it's halfway through, and i like chemistry, but not so much as it once seemed.

and i'd rather do a year of chemistry with my mates than start english lit with the year below. their entire year is slappers and airheads.
