because science is cool.by cleaning off the grime, dipping them in a boiling solution of sodium hydroxide with small bits of zinc in it, leaving them for a few minutes, then taking them out. they have a lovely silver colour now, but it easily rubs off. running them under the tap, then evenly heating them for about a minute and they have a nice golden shine that sticks.
and then i also kept on heating one, and held it in a hot flame for a couple of minutes, and you could see liquid running across the surface, and it was glowing red in the end, and then we bent it into a sans-serif u-shape, and when it cooled down, the queen's head was much much less prominent, and it had gone back to the original colour.

we only did it cos half the class wasn't there.science isn't much like that most of the time. i should have done english lit instead of chemistry.

well, i could, but not reallysince it's halfway through, and i like chemistry, but not so much as it once seemed.
and i'd rather do a year of chemistry with my mates than start english lit with the year below. their entire year is slappers and airheads.
