# just see the first one....
worth seeing...just forget that the last two ever existed.
(, Sat 21 Feb 2004, 23:29, archived)
# well...
the first one was a fabulous ride through the wonderland of combining mindblowing special effects, technology, philosophy, action/adventure, and a well told story, leaving the viewer stunned and wanting more.
however the later films did not wow the viewer because he had already been exposed to most of the contents in the original film, so while it had a good continuation of the story, philosophy, technology, special effects, and action, it was nothing "special" when compared to the first. Compared to other movies at the time, they may have been far ahead, barring Lord of the rings, which i will refrain from commenting on here, they were not the giant leaps viewers expected from the later movies, though they were just good enough to keep the viewers coming back for more in the second and third installment. In conclusion, they were successful as a trilogy, and any one movie could have stood on its own provided the story line was explained, however, excepting the first film, they were not as powerful movies as they were built up to be by the advertising machines.

# especially as you consider the first one wasn't advertised much at all
or if it was, i missed most of it.

i got taken to see it, and i hadn't even heard the name... so as you can imagine, when neo woke up in the real world, i had what can only be described as a "WHOA, FUCK ME WITH A TEASPOON" moment in the middle of the cinema and fell off my chair. it was ace.
(, Sat 21 Feb 2004, 23:15, archived)
# yes
that sounds right. i don't remember much advertising for the first one. and the little i do remember had no mention of the real world outside the matrix
(, Sat 21 Feb 2004, 23:16, archived)
# I have a home cinema
and matrix was the second most requested film by friends to watch for ages.

# Actually,
I think that it would have been far better if it ended at the first one. I loved the first one, but I don't think it needed continuation.
