[challenge entry]
Edit - It seems that posting a basic freedom in said country is offensive for some reason. It also seems that anyone who does anything that could be felt unbalanced quite clearly hates America and Americans. Does anyone else think that's bullshit? No? Guess I'm a terrorist and a hater then. Silly me for not realising.

# as much as I have my problems with america
I tend to agree with this... b3ta.com/board/5151210

# I'm no racist.
People make jokes about disabled people, major natural disasters and dead babies here and posting a picture of something that is seen as a valid form of protest and basic right in America its self is wrong? I didn't even express an opinion. Kindly save your judgements.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 7:56, archived)
# people here do not
even iunderstand the term racist and bandy it about with pompous self-importance. They should become literate before they accuse other people of such ludicrous things.

# Agreed.

# This isn't a yank bashing compo,
and that picture is just fucking wrong.

# I didn't say you were a racist bigot,
but that picture's just not funny and not appropriate for the compo.
Edit: And I bet you have black friends and gay friends, too.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:00, archived)
# Close.
I am gay.

can a vagina be gay?

# I'm afraid it is a Yank bashing compo
and the entries reflect it.

I'm disgusted.

# It's not supposed to be.
It's supposed to be something that makes America look good.
Like this picture wot I made
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:03, archived)
# Yeah (nice picture).
But 99% of people on B3ta hate America and Americans -- so the actual outcome will be different.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:05, archived)
# They don't hate them,
it's just someone else to pick on. I've found most of the entries amusing, ignored a lot of the blatant hate ones, but this picture up there is just plain wrong which is why I said something.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:06, archived)
# I really have to disagree.
Many many people here may hate the current American government, but that's not the same as hating american people. Furthermore, most of what I've seen posted is poking fun at americans not hating them.
I agree that some do take it a bit far, and that some American viewers could be upset.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:11, archived)
# I think it goes a bit deeper than "poking fun".
Would you "poke fun" at black people in the same way? I suspect not.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:16, archived)
# That's true,
but America as a country is not the same thing as black people, who have suffered hundreds of years of oppression.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:32, archived)
# Yeah,
and most of us that hate America and Americans, ARE AMERICANS!!!! GET ME THE FUCK OUTTA THIS DOOMED COUNTRY!
(, Fri 23 Sep 2005, 6:02, archived)
# Every compo
is a 'something' bashing effort, just look at the church one. I'm sure many of the entries would have offended the Christian comunity. If you're the sensitive type b3ta isn't really the place for you.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 9:00, archived)
# This.
With bells on.

#
The US needs a little help with her international image, and you're in charge of the corporate rebranding campaign. What would you do to help America soar again?
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:02, archived)
# Repost it if you want,
or make something appropriate for the competition.
But flag burning is offensive no matter what country's flag it is - even more so when it's an allied flag.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:09, archived)
# That horse high enough for you?
Allied? Christ, you really are just carrying out your own fucking agenda here, aren't you?
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:13, archived)
# I didn't tell you
to take it down. I just told you how I felt about it. Freedom of speech and all that.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:15, archived)
# You did however accuse me of hatred
and tell me that a basic human right was wrong. Don't forget to wipe your jackboots on the way out.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:17, archived)
# I didn't accuse you of hatred. Read the fucking thread.
I just said the picture was not funny and, quite frankly, fucking offensive. I also never said a basic human right was wrong.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:18, archived)
# Whatever, just carry on handing out the tags at will, remember, they're either for or against.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:21, archived)
# I'm not handing out any tags.
Read what I've written - it's my feelings on the subject and it's NOT accusing you of anything.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:22, archived)
#
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:26, archived)
# Boo
fucking hoo.
Seriously, repost the picture. I never asked you take it down, neither did anybody else.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:27, archived)
# I disagree
I've no time for hysterical/ignorant America bashing either, but getting worked up about a bit of burning cloth is just as silly.

(I know what flags are supposed to "mean", btw; I just think people should be mature/rational enough to ignore that kind of provocation)
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 8:52, archived)
# No - just no
Flag burning is offensive to Patriotic people. Patriotic people are, to my mind, people who have an irrational belief that their country is somehow better than everyone else's. It's just a piece of cloth! Please, burn a Union Jack, an EEC flag, burn pictures of the Queen and of Blair.

Burning Americans would be in poor taste.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 9:06, archived)
# Flag Burning
I rather thought that the whole point of the US constitution was that it stood for your right to exprss yourself however you wish flag burning or otherwise.

BTW Anybody know the correct and dignified way to dispose of a flag that reached the end of it's useful life?

That's right - burn it.
(, Thu 22 Sep 2005, 10:07, archived)
# Hicks;
"hey mister, you shouldn't burn that flag. My daddy died for that flag in Korea."

"That's funny. My flag was made in Korea!"

Remember, less than half of americans are idiots.
