The egg...
On a related note, the 'the chicken or the egg?' question annoys me to small pieces, because it's a simple case of Darwin's theory of evolution that states that the chicken was a mild mutation of some other similar creature, possibly something like a dinosaur, and for whatever reason, the chicken was better suited to the environment, but ultimately, that evolved chicken hatched from an egg, which was laid by an unevolved mother... Problem solved. Stop asking the question... Please?

EXACTLY.
this is exactly what happened. i've been over this same question in my head myself.
and if whoever i'm talking to doesn't understand it, i punctuate the theory with the fact that dinosaurs had eggs, and therefore eggs of any kind originated millions of years before chickens.
